Hello! I read an article on another site from a few years ago, saying that VS had reduced the numbers of crew on their A330s from 12 to 10. Is this still true? I was wondering how many cabin crew VS have on each of their aircraft types (A330s/A350s Leisure and Premium configs/B787s) and how many work in each cabin? Thank you in advance for your answers!

I’m not sure that’s indicative of the covid cuts which have never been reinstated.

My understanding now
787/330(both 300 and 900)
1 FSM and 3 Crew in J
1 CSS and 4 crew in W/Y for a total of 9

350 44J config is 11 but has 1 FSM and 2CSS
I’m not sure on the 350 16J config. But basically where it was 10 and 12 in 2019 on the 787/330 and 350 it’s now 9 and 11.

And minimum crewing is less than that again, I believe a 787 can fly with 7 crew. What your onboard service looks like with that is anybodies guess. I have flown with 8 on a 787 and half of them were off either airport or home standby and it was the single worst flight I’ve ever had with VS!

I thought minimum crewing was 1 crew member per 50 pax - with the condition that each main exit door must have a crew member assigned for takeoff & landing? By main exit door I mean full-size door, not over-wing exits (which are obviously not applicable to VS). This is how the likes of Ryanair get 189 pax on the 738 with 4 crew.

As the 787 has 8 doors, flying with 7 crew would surely mean a certain area of the aircraft would have to be blocked off & be left unoccupied? It was very easy to go "crew-down" on the 747's - just close off the upper deck and you could fly with 2 fewer crew.

Important to note that there is a minimum number of crew required by the regulations for safety and the number the airline needs to deliver its service requirements.

For the A330 it's 8 or 9 for the regulations depending on how many seats there are.

see the tables on pages 31 and 32

A330 10 crew 5 in economy/ premium 5 in upper
787 same as above

A350 44J 5 in economy, 2 in premium, 6 in upper total - 13

A359 16J - 7 in economy, 2 in premium 3 in upper - Total 12

All aircraft have 1 X FSM
1 X CSS

787/330
4 crew work in economy/ premium with CSS supporting
3 in Upper Class with FSM supporting
The 10th crewmember floats between Upper and Premium and basically clears in the meal service and does tea and coffee to make the service a bit more attentive

A350 has 2 dedicated crew in premium
44J has 13 Crew
16J has 12 Crew

44J - 13 Crew
4 crew in Y with CSS support
2 crew in W
5 crew in J with FSM support

16J - 12 Crew
6 crew in Y with CSS support
2 crew in W
2 crew in J with FSM support
