7 day release

Good morning all,

Having performed a successful search ;) I now know that normally more G's are released in the week before a flight. Does anyone know when this 7 day period starts? Is it automated at exactly 7x24hr periods before a flight or is it refreshed the next morning within 7 days?

The reason is I want to be one of the first to phone and upgrade to UC on VS020 on 10 Feb.

Thanks
Simon

I know that Revenue will release additional G inventory for Au FC members but I wasn't aware there was a generic "releasing". I'd be very happy to be proved wrong :)

I live in hope that such a release will be made before the csparker family flies to MCO (two by two) in J on March 9th... Last time I checked, there seemed to be availability.

I have tended to find the 7 days to be flexible, with the flexibility increasing as you climbed up through status.

So remind me - G class is??? Yes, I know I can go and look it up, but with this firewall at work, it just takes sooooo long....

In your handy dandy, firewall fighting V-Book, available here "G" is explained as the fare class used to designate Reward Upper Class or Confirmed Upgrades to Upper.

Did you do the search via expert flyer - or some other way?

I searched on the Forum to look at posts related to availability of G class tickets as I wanted to upgrade my W to UC.

The main post I found explained that normally Gs were set-up in advance and very rarely were additional Gs added to routes (unless Au). This seemed to change 7 days before a flight where more Gs would be made available sometimes (according to some other posts).

There is plenty of space on VS020 from SFO on 10th Feb according to Expert Flyer but 0 space left in W so I would expect VS to want to open up some availability in W...

In my OP I just wanted to see when the 7 day clock opened so I could be on the phone. I've already tried FC and they recommend I keep phoning.

The other way to check award availability is by logging into your FC account on the VS web site and do a dummy booking for a reward flight in Upper entering the dates of your revenue flight.

Upgrades from PE use the same G fares so if there's a reward seat there should be an upgrade available. Then just give FC a call to book the upgrade.

James,

Thanks, I saw that on my search too. I will keep doing so and hope that they release more G seats at some point. If all else fails I'll ask at the airport.

regards
Simon

I'd like to clarify something.

They do not 'release' seats automatically at 7 days. Sometimes if the flight is not selling as well as they would like in a particular cabin, they will release more lower 'revenue' class seats, including miles seats (either for upgrade, companion or 'free' seats)

This is by no means a guarantee, and any queries beyond the actual availability is reserved strictly for AU members, and is at the discretion of the 'people upstairs'

Watch for changes when you ring in, as they are getting stricter about this.

Worst case scenario, you can always ask at the airport....

Hope this helps.

Juliet

Can anyone explain what AU is, I see it quite a lot on this thread. Thanks

Au is the Periodic Table symbol for Gold, as an element. Ag being that for Silver.

Basically, AU = Gold card holder; AG = Silver card holder.
