Booking with airline partner

Apologies in advance if this has already been covered (am sure it must have been, but can't find it!) When booking a flight with a partner airline, what's the bext way to go about it to ensure you get miles credited? Do I have to go through Virgin in some way (perhaps the flying clib) , or can I simply quote my membership number to the relevant airline? If so, would I need to do this at time of booking (hope not, as I prefer to book online) or would I need to call the airline afterwards? How could I be sure they'd credit the airmiles?
Grateful thanks.... [:#]

You can do it through VS if you like. When I was trying to sort Vancouver, they could get me prices for Air Canada. But obviously VS have preferred carriers.

Yeah, I'm trying to use one of their partners, in the eternal quest for miles! x

Also folks - is there a facility to do an open jaw flight (Virgin) online? Is doesn't appear so, unless I'm missing something vital. Like a brain....[ii]

If you click on More Booking Options in the Book Flights section on the home page it will bring up that facility

Just quote your VS membership number when you make your booking. If you can't, don't worry, you can add it to your booking later by calling the airline. Make sure they enter the right code for Virgin - that's VS! At the airport have your card to produce at check-in to be doubly sure.

Thanks Honey - I had tried that, but each time I tried to input a different airport to fly back from, it kept defaulting to where I'd flown into. BUT - I just did the same thing and it worked. Gremlins....[V]
