UCS amenities etc

I have read TR's until they are coming out of my ears! Enjoyed them all, but slighty confused about what I can and can't ask for. Taking into account this will be my first and probably only UCS journey!

LHR - SFO can I ask for a sleep suite even if I don't use it?

Also there was mention of a gift either cufflinks or a silver pen, is this now discontinued?

And finally I have read about the plane salt and pepper set, is this avaiable to buy? I did read some TR's that have taken them! But surely this is frowned upon? Would like some, but don't want to take the ones they give me.

Also, can you order anything in the clubhouse from the menu and it is totally free? I have not read any where about paying, but just want to make sure so we don't make fools of ourselves!

Thanks

Sleep suit - yes you can. You can even ask for one not in your size!

Cufflinks were in old amenity kit - "gift" is now a luggage label.

Taking the cruets seems not to be too frowned upon but it's always polite to ask "do you mind if I keep these as a souvenir"? It'd be very uncharacteristic for anyone to say "no".

Everything in the Clubhouse us free. Tipping for Beauty Treatments is at user discretion.

I suspect they will give you a set, and with out stealing.

Also, can you order anything in the clubhouse from the menu and it is totally free? free as the wind I have not read any where about paying, but just want to make sure so we don't make fools of ourselves! Just enjoy yourselves - you are the customers and there is nothing for you to feel foolish about

Hi Christine

Yes, you can take your sleep suite with you, even if you dont use it. I would recomend though that you do use it on over-night flights as it makes the flight much more comfortable.

On the bottom of the salt+pepper pots there are the words 'Pinched from Virgin Atlantic' - that to me says VS would not frown upon you for taking them.

Everything in all the Clubhouses is free. The only exception I can think of here, is wireless internet lap-top access should you feel the need to use this.

Not sure what's in the current Upper amenity pack as they do seem to get updated quite often these days.

Hope this helps

Regards

Didn't I read somewhere that it's now Ozwald Boateng stuff? I thought he did suits - god, how to fit one of those into an amenity kit ;)

Something that occurs to me - I've flown a couple of lucky times in UC, not that recently, but the kit included some toiletries - hand, face cream and so on. You know how you never use this stuff? Well, I sorted some stuff out and have been using the tiny kits. Love the hand cream, but does anyone know where you can buy proper, grown-up sizes? Or even if you can? I went to my local Virgin Vie shop yesterday, and there was nothing remotely like it!

Yes you can get sleep suits on LHR-SFO but i think u might have to ask for it. I had no problem in October when i went to IAD about having to wear it.

You will get an aminety kit on the flight. Its like a wallet an contains the usual stuff. Ear plugs, eye shade, toothbrush and toothpaste. There is also a small black pen and an upper class luggage tag

As for the salt and pepper planes. I don't know if they are still going. I have a couple here at home. I just asked the FA if i could have them and she said no problem. She even put them in a little bag for me so they wouldnt spill all over my bag.

Everything in the clubhouse is free except for the Cowshed beauty products.

Hope this helps and have a great trip

You can get a sleep suit on day flights; just ask.

Normally there is a gift in the pack of goodies. Seams the normal gift is a cr@p luggage tag. If you want one PM me.

Salt and Pepper - Well stealing it bad. You could ask the FA but then they are Virgin's property so are they authorized to give them out? Ethics question really. I was looking at some chop sticks in the LHR CH and an offical looking person with a VS badge said I could take them. I did. There is a thread on this subject. Also going by what is on eBay, people steal a lot of stuff you airlines. Look at my bed, SQ, VS, Korean Air Blankets.

All the CH Food is 100 per cent free. I normally have the waffles and later the full english breakfast. Then get some shortbread. Also all the drinks are free, and there is full bar, free.

-edit to be PC

There are half a dozen PC terminals with free (dial-up?) internet access. They are very slow, but if you are not in a rush, they are more than adequate.

Thanks for all your replies, you are really quick at answering questions.

I will ask for the salt and pepper if they put them out! I would not feel happy about taking them with permission.

I am really excited about the trip, never mind the holiday! This site is great, it has given me loads of info.

Thanks again
Christine

I've actually had the cufflinks in the new "travel wallet" style OB kit. Never got them in the old kit - ended up with two naff keyrings which are totally useless.

I seem to recall this was the special Xmas gift for 2004. It's a semi circle of metal with two "blobs", one each end. One of the blobs unscrews so you can thread keys onto it. It also unscrews while it's in your pocket ;). Anyone want one? :).

Got the cuflinks in red and brown, and loads of damn purple ones. Also got a couple of key rings, only these had one of those rings you thread the keys onto and a large OB blob. The blob kept breaking on the ones I had. Then one time I got the OB makeup mirror (why - do I look like I use makeup!)

I got the mirror too, which I liked. I kept it in my handbag but when I was asked for a mirror recently and fished it out, it was broken! [:0]

The heavy silver ones? Oooooh I wanted those chopsticks--great as hair doodads or poking things where the wooden chopsticks break off at the ends (although probably not too wise for use with stuck toast?).

The amenity bags and sleep suits make nice host gifts. I recently gave a set to a friend in Scotland who had just flown back Y from MIA and was enormously pleased to have a wee feel of turning left, but really the amenity bag is quite c#*p, in my opinion. The pen is quite nice though and Polos are back on. Night suit is lovely for cold evenings (which we seem to be having a lot of) where one can be warm and cozy as well as envisioning the next UC flight.

Miss the zip amenity bag--now THAT was useful.

Polos though - just occurs to me that something a little more UC might be in keeping.....

My first UC flight back from Hong Kong 7 years ago I was amused by the Ceramic Salt and Pepper Pot Planes.... with "Stolen from Virgin Atlantic" on the bottom.

Sleep Suits and Amenity Kits from various airlines have been great stocking fillers for most of my familly as well.
At one point my mum had about 100 different pots of conditionner/ hand cream/ water sprays in the bathroom that I'd donated.
