I'd like to join a support V-Flyer but am confused

As a red member, two luggage tags will be printed for me. The instructions suggest you use your e-mail address (which is a great suggestion) but my address has too many characters (25)
It also sems to default to my V-Flyer Member Name on the tag. I don't think that will help if BA or Iberia looses my luggage on a connecting flight.
Also, since I'll be in Europe (without a compabitable mobile) I don't see how a US phone number helps either.
Does anyone have any suggestions? All responses appreciated.

Michael,
I think lots of us have had the same trouble with email addresses! I, and many others like me, have put on their mobile phone number on the tags as being the next quickest way of getting hold of you in the event of luggage going astray. I would have preferred my email address as I think that's more secure, but as you say,not enough character space provided.

It'd be the same for us in the UK if we were to put on a home UK number!

As above - obviously useful if you have a roaming mobile or cell phone and thats what I use - however - if your current email address is too long to go on the card then simply create a new hotmail or web based email that has a permanent re-direction to your current email - something like
[email protected] - and then this will go on the card!!

Michael,
If you have an extra-long email address, you can include it in the "Special Message" area on the PayPal checkout, and in the personalisation line, say 'see special message'. I'll then try and make it fit be reducing the font size or other tricks (note - if your email address is 200 characters long, even I'll struggle to fit it on the card and still make it readable!).
It's not your V-Flyer name that gets used on your card, but the real name you have registered with PayPal. Again, if you want a different name (for instance, because someone else is paying for your cards), then use the special message area to let me know what to put on the plastic.

I was also thinking of joining.
Am i entitled to a silver membership as it says so next to my posts on the forum, or do i have to start with red?

Hi hairy,
The kits are cumulative - so you'd need to buy a red kit for £10, then an "upgrade" kit to silver for £7.50.
To be fair, a red membership alone would be a great addition to that avatar of yours on the left hand side

This is a suggestion. Why not offer free membership if you purchase a V-Book? A V-Book costs more than the membership kit. I chose the V-Book over the membership kit as I thought it represents better value.

I cannot speak for the VF Directors but the VFBook is authored by various VFers but the publishing is done by CafePress. VF only recieves a very small bit of the money that the VFBook revenue. That said, the majority of the money paid for the kits goes to the hosting and support of the website itself.
Possibly the VF Directors could get together and buy a few VFBooks when the new edition is ready and sign them to raise funds?[i]:D

Oh I see. Thanks for the explanation, I hadn't realised that. Ignore my suggestion then!

buffer,
Pete will probably e-mail you or PM you when he sets it all up. When I did mine I think it was about an hour, but with it being the weekend, he may not be around. I'd say a day at the most, and he'll notify you when it's all set.
Welcome welcome!

Great service and a great site.

I'm afraid my cards might take a little longer to arrive. Mail to the US certainly doesn't work as quick as e-mail, although I wish it did... I'm really excited! haha...

I'm a little confused, how do you have a black membership kit with only 139 posts?

Answered in this thread but essentially Mike's karma ensures him a lot of respect in this forum and Pete has reacted accordingly. Hence also the custom level tag.

Hi folks, my account was activated on 8/4/06, however I have still not received my membership pack - Is this a longer than normal time to wait, or am I worrying for nothing. Sorry but I am excited about getting my kit.
