OK,
Seeing as the Search function never really likes me let me apologise if this Q has been answered before.
Beginning of June i have a PE reward flights from LGW-LAS (I wanted UC but there was no availability). Has anyone ever successfully booked a PE reward flight and then upgraded (obviously paying the extra few thousand miles) to UC at the airport if there are seats free up front?
Thanks
Alex.

Hi Alex,
In general, yes - many people upgrade with miles at the airport from an existing reward seat, assuming availability.
If the question was specific to the LAS route, however - I'm sure you know it's a very rare case indeed (and maybe, hence the question?)

By the way - for reference:
As of RIGHT NOW, there are 4 seats in Upper that are unassigned on your outbound (with 11 free in PE) and 8 free J seats on your inbound (with 7 free in PE).
Buckets available at the moment:
5/JUN = J4 D2 Z0 W7 S7 K7 Y7 B7 L7 M7 Q7 X7 N0
11/JUN = J5 D1 Z0 W7 S7 K0 Y7 B7 L7 M7 Q7 X7 N7
So... it's POSSIBLE. [:?]

Would it be possible to upgrade from a reward economy to a reward upper class at the airport assuming redemption availability ?

Technically not as reward seats arent upgradable - however if availability looks good on the day you could always turn up!! word of warning one time VS charged me £30 because I booked within 24hrs ..given it was a reward e-ticket I couldn't see the justification - this was a few years ago so maybe they're a bit more relaxed about late rewards these days..

Sorry Jonathan, but yes, you can.
(And they are "upgradable" in a sense - you can "pay" the difference in miles to upgrade it to the equivalent reward seat in the next class up with no issue at all. I know - I've just done it for 2 members of my family

)
I've done it from a U to G at the aiport on two occasions a while back - no problem whatsoever. They'll just take the difference in miles from your account.
Confused now, though... [:?] Where did the £30 for within 24 hours come from? - I've never heard of that before.

Well, for non-Au members, there are "express fees", but there are also "handling fees" (see
here) - maybe one of those applied at the time?
Cheers
Michael

Indeed - I wasn't even aware that there was a chart of "fees" for booking reward seats! [:0]
