Virgin + BA - Why so expensive?????

Just a quick question to see if BA and Vigin are still at each other. I can see others looking at the two and possibly taking advantage with simular / better products while each airline tries to "kill" each other. BA club class is amongst the best in the world as well as Virgin UC. But should they not now concentrate on what "simular" products are starting from Asian / middle east airlines. Considering passangers now want top quality as well as good prices I feel Virgin are starting to loose their way pricewise to the standard business traveller.

I am currently pricing to go to Shanghai in September - here goes
- Dub/PVG return - Virgin @ Û6550 - BA Û6369 - Airfrance Û4410 - Luftansa Û3264 - Emirates Û2947 - There will be 2 of us travelling so how can we possibly look at our local and favourites Virgin or BA

I Imagine BA/VS are diect from LHR whereas I doubt the others are

Of course only you can decide if a direct flight is worth the premium before looking at the quality of each airline...

As your flying from Dub anyway are two changes any worse than one??

I'd say that until the planes start going empty, and as long as people are willing to pay (and therefore allow them to "get away with" charging what they do), there's no problem from the airline's perspective.

They also have different products on offer:

Hmm. VS UC vs Air France's Business Class? [:0] Funny. ;)

Speaking from a purely economic/business angle it is actually a fact that getting on the price cutting or undercutting your competition spiral is the fastest route to economic failure. More for less is only a short term strategy best suited for startup businesses or marketing angles.

The trick to success is stick with your price and make sure the goods and services match up and stay consistant.

Too many so called business people concentrate more on the other persons business untill its too late and they realise cost cutting means less staff and an inability to provide the intended product.

I agree with all the comments and in general agree that if you want a "rolls royce" you pay for it and if you want a "lada" etc. But I really feel they should watch what the others are doing as economics still will show that business have to watch overheads and its hard to push something that is even 30% more expensive. Ok I understand the whole idea of keeping the UC as a high quality product but when they are charging nearly SIA first class prices I think its a bit much

As we have said before, a plane seat is worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it.

As Paul has alluded to, whilst the W and J loads are high, the last thing VS are going to do is a massive price drop.
