Does anybody know what is deemed suitable proof of your immigration status for a UK national? May as well sign up on Thursday...

Isn't your passport enough? It says "British Citizen" on it... [?]

Their website says "What documents do I need?
If you want to apply to enrol you will need your
passport or other acceptable travel document,
along with satisfactory evidence of your
immigration status in the UK. You will also need
to bring any other documents you normally
travel with."

Turning up with your V-Book, print-outs of fare codes, seat maps and other such travel essentials then? [:P]

Thanks,
Sarah

Ah, isn't it just a weird comma thing... [:?]

Meaning:

"you will need your passport or other acceptable travel document, along with satisfactory evidence of your immigration status in the UK."

So, either passport, OR the other two items.

Tell us all about the process. Maybe a IRIS report maybe if I can bend your leg [:I]

I too will be enrolling during my IAD to DXB layover.

Hiya all,

In the CH now, very good I must say!

Checked the IRIS thing, they are open at weekends but were closed earlier today as they had 'gone tech'.

They should be open a bit later and I'll register then, flight's not till 2pm anyway.

Sahajesh.

Just registered for IRIS, took about 5 mins. They examine your passport to check eligibility, then you sit at one of the two desks.

Stare into a metal box, making sure that your irises (irisii??) are lined up with the two green dots and say cheese!

If you're wearing glasses, you have to take these off for the picture. They then take a standard digital picture and then verify the iris picture.

They also give you a sheet of paper with you personal details (as they have been stored on their system) eg name, date of birth, passport number and ask you to check these are correct.

The other freebie you get is an Arrival Card detailing how to use the system when you arrive into the UK - basically you enter the pod thing when prompted, there are three cameras inside and the relevant one will light up and that's the one you give your best moody stare at. If Mr Blair is happy that you are allowed in, the exit door will open - if not, presumably lights will flash, klaxons will sound and a troop of security men/women will surround you.

One interesting thing is that the validity of IRIS is two years but it's a rolling two years from the time of last entry into the UK. It's pretty unlikely that anyone (here at least!) would let their 'membership' lapse. :D

I've not heard anything about the IRIS data being used outside UK (perhaps within EU, free borders notwithstanding) - does anyone know about this?

All in all, easy and painless!

Sahajesh

PS Right, off for a bit of grub then onto 63A in VS045....

Thanks Sahajesh :) I'll sign up when I pop up to Manchester next month.

It sounds slightly different to Privium where you keep your iris scan on a smart card, and no one else has access to it. If you lose the card, you need a new scan.

Anything that helps reduce the queues is always welcome though! :D

Used IRIS re-entering the UK today through T3.

Quick and painless, though I did get asked to "move a little closer, please" by the camera, so that my eyes lined up properly.

(Ironically, there was no queue at the EU entry line at about 10.35 this morning either...)

There's no need to swipe passports or anything before entering the IRIS booth.

While they take the capture with glasses off, the entry scan can be done with glasses on.

Cheers,
Mike

Hiya all,

Used IRIS when VS46 landed yesterday - as I was at the back of the plane, there was a huge queue for Immigration. Not a problem for me as I went to IRIS and bypassed a 20-odd minute wait.

Hurrah!!

To enroll took about 10 minutes including wait time. Nothing to sign. Simple.

Faster than FastTrack to use.

I noticed the information about Iris scanning on the Virgin website today but cannot find any information about where abouts you to to get this done.

I understand from reading this thread that it is available at Manchester, but is it available at all terminals or just one particular area where you sign up, and is it during certain times only. Also is it suitable for children.

Having seen the queue when we landed in May from MCO, it would have been lovely to bypass all that but obviously if my daughter cannot use the service there's not much point in us having it done as she always travels with us.

It says it will be installed during 2006 - maybe a call to BAA would answer your question??

They will probably tell you to use a smaller bag and not to carry tablets that might be made of Gel, will lose your luggage and generally make a balls of answering your question.

So that will be nothing new will it[V]

I think I will have to give this a spin in September.

Sounds very 007 and you never know, it might fix my wonky eyes :D
