Hi, my first post.
We want to go back to Orlando next May 2007 for about 12 days. What is the best way to book the flights from Man? We have amassed just over 50,000 points from our Virgin double point credit card. Is there a good time to book, offers wise? I seem to recall in Jan/Feb this year lots of £159 flights on the web site for this May is this usual? Whats the score with companion flights or return flight upgrades to PE on (VS076) using the points?

Thanks Ian

Hello Ian and welcome to V-Flyer.

To use your points to upgrade, you need to buy and 'upgradeable fare'. Have a look at the V-Flyer upgrade guide for details.

I can't remember seeing any £159 flights on the website.. are you sure about this?

When you are booking reward flights, the further in advance you can book, the better.

My personal opinion would be for you to keep in saving. IMHO the best way to spend points you have acquired is to book UC seats, but you will need a lot more points for this.

Others will disagree, though. ;)[}:)]

Hi Ian and welcome.
I too would agree with Nick -keep saving and then book a G to go somewhere nice and warm when you've enough miles.Did I miss something with £159 fares???

If your looking to use your points on a companion ticket remember you get a 'free' companion ticket after a year of having your card (as you have spent over 15k).

The companion flight too has to be purchased with a "qualifying" fare and they're not allways that good a good deal (particularly if you can be flexible with dates etc).

My opinion is that the best time to use miles is when regular fares are expensive. Using miles when fares are cheap is a waste. May is not that much of a problem to MCO as there are no real school holidays - especially at the beginning.

IMHO, the best (most economical) use of miles is to travel in S class in premium economy and bring a companion along! Nice seats and great value, two people often travelling Premium Economy where its the same cost as BUYING two economy seats.
