I have 63k booked for a "solo" trip to vegas . Its the window seat of one of the pairs down the back of the aircraft

would you guys be happy with this or would you get there for twilight and pay the xtra £50 for an exit seat

If i did get an aisle exit row seat i presume i would be sat next to 2 strangers in the other 2 seats , or do these sometimes go empty ?

just would like some advice really

It would be £75 per leg for LAS. I recall someone saying you couldn't get them at twilight checkin as there's no-one around to take your money.
I'm a big fan of exit rows, they're worth the money, especially on a long flight.

I stand to be corrected, but aren't exit rows to the West Coast £75 now?

IMHO, it is still worth it, but I know others disagree.

LAS planes generally have heavy loads, so I doubt the seats would be empty.

The window seats in the 2-seat section are some of the best available in Economy. It *might* be worth considering the £75, but you don't have a bad position to start with.

There are two downsides:

1) The toilet "block" is near those seats - although 63 is a little forward of the queues.
2) You'll be last off the plane - and therefore, to immigration.


Other than that - decent seat.

If you can get the window or aisle seat, it should be worth it. However, if not, I'd be tempted to stick with one of the pairs[:?]

I know its abit late in the day!! But I guess its down to personal preference, if your tall and can't stand the thought of 10hrs or so in a standard Y seat then the £75 would be worth it, on the other hand if you think you can cope then its not.

Obviously it might be out of your hands if you are not at the airport early enough to bag an exit row seat, but if you can go with your gut feeling, for me I would personally do it, its waying up costs over benefit!

Last time I bought an Exit Row I was told by VS in LHR that you can't have an Exit Row window unless you're a party of 2 and buy the middle seat also. Something to do with the bulge in the door from the evac slide and how it hampers leg room in the window seat. Personally I prefered the aisle anyway. On my EWR-LHR leg I took one of the two up the back, and on my return leg, Exit Aisle. I personally liked the exit row (I had an IFE box crammed under my seat in the back which sucked up the leg room).

That said, if you can justify the extra 150 quid to do exit row round trip I think it is worth it IMHO.

On the 747's, the exit row seats by the window and the middle one are sold as Buy one get one Free, because of the bulge in the door, as you said. That is why they will not sell one of these on its own. On the 346 though (and ISTBC) this policy is not the case because the seats are not too near the door like on the 747.

I guess the exit rows in Y really come into their own on an overnight flight - particularly when you are travelling with someone else. You both get to be able to stretch your legs & if the person in the aisle seat falls asleep, the other people on the row can still get up without disturbing them.

As to is it worth the £50 / £75 - I think I would have to say yes - I've been "down the back" in Y on VS on an overnight flight and would have welcomed the extra space / ability to visit the toilet without disturbing my friends.

Yes.

suppose it wouldnt be worth paying the extra 75 quid for a kid to stretch out anyway!

I think stretch out is the wrong term, I think Gj alluded to it, but I think the term is actually 'lay out'.

Careful ont he definition of children though, as in airline world kids are actually adults when they hit 12. And the real smart, mature kids that attend DisneyWorld are adults at 10!

You must be 16 or over, and physically capable of helping other passengers int he event of an emergency, so laugh away at the fool that 'has a bad back' that requests an exit row.

The whole issue of paying for exit rows really narks me, since other airlines don't do it.
They are nice if you are tall and thin, but since the armrests are solid and fixed to accomodate the tray table you lose some width and I find that makes a big difference and can be a little uncomfortable for a more "normally proportioned" tall person.

Personally I don't think they are worth the money and on VS I just choose an Aisle seat, with one leg jammed to the seat in front to stop them reclining and one leg in the aisle tripping everyone up. I do this in the hope that i either get moved for free to an exit row seat, or to UC[}:)] Sadly its never happened, but a few careless people have gone A over T and then been mighty upset with me[:I]

sounds like a recipe for a broken knee, quickly followed by air rage...

On a BA flight last year back from Atlanta, the "lady" behind me took great exception to me reclining my economy seat, and kept poking me very hard in the back with her knee. After a couple of polite words from me, we had to get a stewardess involved. In the end I agreed to only recline "three quarters of the way", and she kept her knees to herself. I have to say I wasn't really willing to do that, but at 2:00am my negotioating skills aren't the best.

I am entitled to recline my seat. and I was jolly well going to, especially as the passenger in front of me had done so too!

I imagine this is one of the most common annoyences of pax, yes it is annoying when somebody infront put their seat back but the seat is designed to do this so why shouldn't they? As long as it is not during the food service (which I think the CC ask for the seat to be put upright anyway) then IMO its just tough look for the person behind, if they want more room pay more and get a better class.

Indeed you are. However, with anything less than 34" seat pitch, and at a long legged 6'5 my knees are already in your back and annoying you before you've reclined. So good luck to physically get your seat to recline. I am well practiced at calmly putting up with it now, and invariably it is the recliner getting irrate and cussing all and sundrie. I just politely smile at the cabin crew and wait and see if one of us will get moved!

I agree about the payment, I recently flew ANZ LAX - LHR and didnt have to pay

Well I am clearly an idiot as I won't recline my seat as I know its then limiting for the person behind.

If your going for an exit seat make sure you don't get the A seat i.e. beside the window as they have those large bulges coming from the door giving you no leg room at all.

Well good Sir, you obviously have a much better respect of others than me[:I]. As mentioned earlier in this thread the "A" seat is only sold as a "buy one get one free" deal with the middle seat because of the door bulge.

I am sure that I read somewhere [on this site's forum] that the A/K [window] exit row seats only have their legroom limited by the evacuation slide on a 747 aircraft. If you are on an Airbus, this is not an issue. If this is true - are the A/K exit row seats still sold as a BOGOF with the middle one on an Airbus?

(I admit, I have not flown on a VS Airbus, so ISTBC, but I am 99% sure I read this somewhere).

The A346 exit seats are not sold as BOGOF, this is only on the 747's (ISTBC but parents didn't get BOGOF on a 346 only last month)

Yep BOGOF is only for the 747s. Well worth it if you're travelling with someone else. I actually prefer the window one to the middle seat.

you pay for your seat, so oyu should be able top recline it!
