UC Laptop Power Adaptors

I was thinking about spending some FC miles to buy an upgrade to UC for my flight to LAX next week.

I normally feel less guilty about spending so many miles if I can do a few hours work on my laptop during the flight. However I suddenly remembered that I have recently changed my laptop and I am not sure if an appropriate EmPower adaptor is available for it.

I've got a brand new Dell Inspiron 9100 and the power socket at the back is different to my old Inspiron 8100.

Does anyone know if there is a laptop compatibilty list available anywhere for EmPower adaptors?

I love this site by the way.

Thanks a lot

Mike

Virgin lend passengers the adapter made by Targus, and carry a selection of PowerTips for common laptops - however it would seem the 9100 is too new to be listed on the Targus site at http://www.targus.com/us/configurator/targus/default.asp

However, it might be worth calling either Targus or Dell to check whether the 9100 can use an equivalent PowerTip. It might then be worth investing in your own tip for your particular laptop rather than chancing it that Virgin carry that particular tip in their limited selection (for example, I bought my own Targus adaptor for my Apple laptop).

Nope, it's not in their standard set of nibs. I know this since I also have a G4 Powerbook. ;)

I'd recommend either buying your own nib, or just a complete adaptor kit. Us Apple users tend to have to fend for ourselves in this sea of Windows machines.. Duck, here comes RichardMannion ;)

Is there a local store(on either side of the pond) that sells just adapters or do I have to specially order them from Targus?

Think you'll only be able to get them from Targus. The nib you're after is number 91.

Are the inflight V:PORT laptop power adapters, just a cigarette output? If so, wouldnt a DC to AC converter work?

Thanks for everyones help :)

Nah, they're the proprietary EmPower connectors, hence why you need the Targus adaptor. Co-incidentally, with the Targus kit you also get a cigarette output adaptor to plug onto the EmPower socket for when you're in the car ;)
