Hi
Is it better to sit in zone a of virgin's LHR 744s or zone b. I will be travelling on VS 20 in October and I have 17/16K and 17G. Would it be better to switch to somewhere else?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer[y]
Why not use
this little feature of the site and see what other V-flyers think of certain seats, might help you make your mind up.
Neil:)

I have chosen my current seats based off the feature but i was just wondering if there are any perks about particular zones in Upper Class.
Thanks

A Zone = Quieter "smaller" feel to the cabin, but next to the IFBT.
B Zone = "bigger" feel to the cabin, but next to the bar.
Swings and roundabouts, I'm afraid. Personally, I like row 17.

I've just noticed my flight to Boston has changed to a 744. Do you feel like you are looking at the person opposite you more on these flights? Changed seat to 4A, but pondering a move downstairs.

I never found it obtrusive. You are at an angle anyway so you are not looking directly at them.
In any case, unless you are taller than 6' 2 when you recline your seat your head dips below the sidewall so you don;t have to see or be seen by anyone.

I think you will be fine in 17 etc. as it's a day flight (AFAIK) and therefore sleep probably won't be your main priority.

Hi,
On the 744's I do like the 1-1 configuration on the Upper Deck.

Cheers TBS and G_NEUS. I only had 4A to choose from as when it changed from a A340 to a 744, most had been put upstairs.

Bear in mind though, on the upper deck of B744's, in Upper, the suites are narrower, have smaller arm rests and the over-head bins are also smaller (which with the current carry-on regs is probably no longer an issue anymore).
I personally like the nose section, 8K is my usual seat when sat in J on a 744 as there's lot's of space around you as 8K is just forward of the IFBT area.

I agree with you mitchja about 8k. It is my favourite too. I will be in touch with you about the timings of my upcoming trips so we don't have to duke it out at the check-in desks.[}:)]

It is a night flight. Will it be hard to sleep in 17?

Also agree with 8K, though I prefer 8A when returning from the US (no sunshine!).
C2Land4 - if it were me I'd try to move forward if sleep is your number 1 priority, and to the upper deck if that's all you want to do. I tend to wear my eye mask and iPod to sleep, and can generally do it anywhere but upstairs will certainly be quieter and darker.

Thanks slinky!
The only seats left in the nose section are 9, 10, and 11A should i get them?

Yes - go for the A side in zone A - the "K" seats are on the open side of the IFBT's work area and it is immensely irritating seeing everyone else get their massage before you... 6 and 7 don't have overhead bins, which sometimes used to cause problems.

OK,[:I], I'd try changing then as it is a bit too close to the bar for my liking [:?]

Just to hijack this thread...
We have flights booked on the VS20, next year.
It was originally showing as a 600, we were surprised at this as we had always thought of the SFO route as always being a 747, so we booked seats 4K & 5K.
Just checked our booking and aircraft is now showing as a 747 and our seats have been changed to upstairs, but still 4K&5K.
. Is this OK for a couple or would we be better going for an A & K seat?
. Would we be better off moving forward a little?.
Thanks in advance,
Tim & Chris.

Generally I find K & K a better combination than A & K although I cannot speak for seats on the upper deck. Really 6A & K are the best ones for couples but after that it is easier to pop your head over the partition than try and converse across the cabin

Just checked in to 6K on VS5 to MIA. Any couples are welcome to buy my seat off me for a reasonable sum. Discount to VF members, of course

So are the suites noticeably narrower upstairs then? *ponders moving downstairs*

Exactly my view, on a 747 7and8A or 7and8K are the best for two together.

Is 10A too close to the inflight beauty station too sleep?

Well the A seat is facing the solid wall at the back of the IFBT area so is much better than 10,11 or 12 K - you may get some light but it's also likely that traffic will take the K aisle ... if you use eye shades and either ear plugs or headphones, you could probably sleep anywhere in upper. I think you'll be OK in 10A.
