Thanks for that Freeway, If it has been on the board before I had missed it.

I must admit, when I first read your post, I thought you meant 5th July this year[:I]

I take it you mean July 2005;)

Freeway

Thanks for the news.

Mrs Buns works for a dual listed company that operates out of both London and Sydney. She says many of her colleagues will be switching when VS comes on line.

Am I missing something - nobody has asked what route it will take?

It will be via HKG on an A340-600 I believe.

I know that was the initial plan, but I was under the impression VS still had no rights to continue on from HKG..

The crew on my VS flight last week also confirmed they would definately start in December. The deal is all but done, and I also understand that a new clubhouse is being built at Hong Kong this year to facilitate the new route.

I heard BA were pretty pissed off at VS getting this route, they'd been after it for a while.

Interesting, because according to http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/040621/80/ewa48.html it is all still subject to approval..
quote:Implementation of the agreement had been delayed while the European Commission determined that it would not run counter to the objectives of its common transport policy .. the European Commission was still in the process of scrutinising the deal but that an outcome was likely in September.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to have the opportunity to travel on VS metal to SYD, but there is a difference between "they do [have approval]" and "outcome [is] likely in September" ;)

I though there had been a trade off with cathy to get the syd route in the first place, letting Cathy fly to NYC from LHR in the future

I wonder if it will still be possible to use miles on Singapore on the Australia route after the VS service starts?

Will VS UC to Australia yield 20 tier points I wonder?

Announcement of the route is great news and I expect that this will be followed by an increase in VH activity down under? Hope so.

cheers
