Just had a bag search at LCY and had a deodorant stick and shave stick confiscated.

Soap is also on their banned list.

The deodorant stick has successfully been through eight UK security screenings since August including twice through LCY.

I am trying very hard not to swear.

Oh, and of course you can't buy stuff like toothpaste airside at LCY. The deodorant will be Clarins and the shave stuff Clinique.

I got tooth powder and stick deodorant through LHR T1 zone R security no problems last week,they did however relieve me of my beloved plastic hilton corkscrew that I had forgoten to take out of my bag,good job the nice people at the LHR hilton replaced it on our return.

I would have thought that possibly LCY would have much more stringent rules but seeing as you went through the airport fine before, I don't really know what to make of this.
One thing I really dislike is lack of standardisation (and yet I fly VS;)) and having differing policies at different airports on different days of the week seemingly is extremely annoying; you have no idea of what you want to take will actually be allowed.[:(!]

As airports go, I love LCY. In general, they have their act together when BAA doesn't. Unlike BAA they actively and noticeably work hard to ease the DFT cr@p. I am sure that we all totally agree that consistency is the essence.

What I thought was interesting was that the chap said I could "melt" it down to a liquid. That'll be with the lighters you confiscate then. I think he meant dissolve, I would've corrected him but life is so short. Then I could've also told him about the stick of semtex I had up my butt.

I wish I could believe that these DFT (and BAA) idiots actually knew what it is like to fly these days. But of course they all have airside passes and don't have to suffer the impact of their own rules.

Right, so that's clear then.

From Nov 6 there will be some standardisation across the EU, the result of a compromise. Compromise? So they really do take security seriously then.

I agree, there is no continuity, I flew to Brussels last week on Business, and didn't need to take my shoes or belt off, then the following week, flew out of Gatwick again to Edinburgh, and had to take my shoes, and belt off???? And last week flew out of LHR T2, didn't take my shoes or belt off, and the metal detector went off, but the BAA staff were more interested in talking amongst themselves, and wishing each other a Happy Diwali!!! 3 people went through after me, and they still didn't check them! Come on get it together!

Going through LTN last Friday morning we kept our shoes on. Going through MAH yesterday we had to take our watches off[?]

Today at Heathrow it was the usual, shoes, coats but only one piece of hand luggage each!

I swear that they are making this up as they go along![:(!]

Had no problems getting my Lynx Dry solid stick through T1 domestic security today, shoes also left on but T3 on Friday it was shoes off.

MAN on Friday was random, but I got picked.
