Does anybody know do they supply childrens meals in UC, or would they be the same as they serve in economy? don't know whether to book a childs meal or let them take their chances with the menu [:?]

I think whether a child could go for the main menu is a bit hit and miss.

I've seen situations where a kid doesn't like the "adult selections" from the main menu, and so all they eat on the flight is the bread, sometimes the cheese, and lots of desserts. I've seen the crew also assemble a kid-friendly pasta meal from Y meals.

Some of it probably depends on what the child is used to eating as part of their normal day-to-day diet.

If it's all fast food, convenience foods like pizzas, and things like spaghetti, then they probably won't like the Upper Class menu. If the child is used to eating adult meals with the rest of their family, then you may find they enjoy dishes from the main menu.

I believe you can order kids meals in Upper Class. There has been debate on here before whether the Upper Class SPMLs are the same as in the other cabins, just re-plated on J flatware, or are different.

Any of our friendly resident Senior CC members or FSMs able to answer?

Cheers!
Mike

djh,
I've edited the title of your post to "Children's Meals in UC" to help direct others who have a similar question to yours.

According to the VS website you can order children's meals in advance of your flight by inserting the request into your booking. Here is the link.

Hope you have a great flight with your child.

Hi djh,

When we travelled in UC with our infant son we ordered a child's meal as a backup, on the outward flight he ate mostly from the UC menu and the staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. On the return flight the child's meal was spaghetti and meatballs [^](our sons favourite) so he had that with a few accompaniments from the UC menu.

In my opinion order one then at least you have the choice, not sure if the meal offered is different from those served in Economy but it was very nicely presented and was ideal.

Regards
Nevil

My kids have had exactly the same meal served on our last 4 flights....the dreaded 'chicken' teddies. They are disgusting and the kids hate them. We were in PE, not UC though. The kids have specifially asked me not to order them meals again!

J class CHMLs are the same as in Y/W - only plated on china.

Thanks for that.

So, djh, unless you want to be scraping your kids out of the overheads at the end of the flight - they'll have got there because they'll be totally jacked-up on sugar and food additives - avoid the kids meals.

The VS kids meals seem to be all reconstituted "mystery meat" products, pasta in "atomic" orange sauce, sweets, biscuits, processed cheese strings, and not a fresh vegetable in sight.

Regards,
Mike

no my kids will not be eating a kids meal, they eat 'proper' food at home no reconstituted rubbish (meat & veg), will try the adult menu but will take sandwiches/snacks just in case

Sounds like a good plan. Some of the longer flights, such as SFO, LAX and LAS also have a selection of "light bites" on the Upper menu - simple hot snacks, like steak/roast beef sandwiches, hot paninis, mini pizza/calzone, spring rolls, that sort of thing.

Glad to hear your kids enjoy "real food"! [y]

Cheers!
Mike (shuddering at the thought of "chicken teddies")
