Economy Relaunch

PostPosted: 30 Jan 2007, 17:52

No details of what is coming but the latest edition of PTT - the VS crew newspaper, whilst talking about the new PE states that an economy relaunch is just around the corner, like i say no details but just to let you know that something is being planned. Im guessing the roll out of new seats is the main part (hopefully) possibly whilst refitting the LHR 747s? but maybe some new services or ammenities. Oh yeh and the PE amenity kit is coming soon... i would think its just the same as the Y one only packaged better and the inbound one will also contain socks that everyone asks for!

Nice to see that Y is being looked at at last, of course the first good move VS could make is to offer more seat pitch as there are now many charter airlines that offer more.

VS are going to have to do something to spruce up Economy, as even the likes of Thomson are quite heavily advertising the fact that they now offer more leg room in Economy than BA or Virgin.

Thomson also go on to add that all their fleet have AVOD IFE systems too - VS take note, how many of your LGW/MAN B&S fleet have V:port?

I totally agree that Y is needing a big re-vamp... i think the service is ok but with a few changes it could be market leading... legroom is another issue but i cant see that being improved just now. Personally i think the new seats will help alot esp on the 346 and heathrow 744s those narrow seats are very very poor. Vport needs to be rolled out to 343s and LGW fleet its only about 8a/c anyway so not that big a deal, and would standardise IFE on all aircraft. The only issue is the cost of a Y seat just now 200 quid to NYC after taxes etc there aint much cash left for improvements...maybe we all expect too much for our money - i know peak season prices go way up but just a thought!

There are only two things that VS need to do to improve their Economy product...

1. Install V:PORT onto LGW/MAN aircraft
2. Improve the seat pitch

Simple enough really!

Whilst EK isnt installing ICE across its whole fleet- surely when VS made the decision to install VPort the economics of installing it across the fleet was taken into account?

If FCA,TOM,DL,CO can all go about installing one IFE I really cant see why VS wont especially as they installed it across the LHR fleet without any questions asked (minus a couple of 343s).

For years Y has needed a bit of TLC- its nice to see that a product that was market leading at its time is now being restored to that position.

It's not as if SRB is short of money right now ;)

Like the phrase I heard once "You've got to spend money to make money"

LHR 744's are getting the new 'W' seat this year with LGW 744's having a refurb next year to include the new 'W' seat some more J seats and new IFE.

Thanks for the info G-VOPS. Look forward to the LGW destinations picking up V-port and some more suites...:D Has it been decided where the extra suites will be fitted?

Might finally be able to get a G to LAS next year once the re-fits are completed...[:0][:w]

About time!! Fantastic news- I wonder if we will see some possible improvements to VPort as well when its installed- maybe a place to connect your ipod like DL, CO, UA and EK are getting.

Thanks for the info G-VOPS, I am hoping that this does happen, as others have already said with the various charters up-ing their game I think VS had to do something on the IFE side of things for the LGW fleet to keep the edge they imo currently have.

Hopefully it should all tie in nicely for our trip to MCO late 2008, which will be our first ex MAN:D

G-VOPS did not state that VPORT would be fiited, only that new IFE would be fitted!

Must be better than nova though, and must be a bit of a waste if it wasnt V:PORT.

Just a thought when they remove the 100 or so Y seats from LHR744s and put in extra W and J will they have lots of vport systems left over? could be on their way to LGW or baby bus at LHR?... would be a start!

I take it that this will possibly mean bye bye PE downstairs?
Or with the DDA, perhaps keep the PE downstairs and fit some UC seats in the bubble
