Thanks, Phil[y]

T3 certainly does need a face-lift at check-in/arrivals; it really is awful at the moment on the gournd floor.

VS.

All this work is all part of the T3 Futures project.

After all of these improvements, LHR is going to be a pretty fancy airport, to say the least. But I wonder why BAA is bothering a incorporate VS's drive-thru checkin when VS will move to T4 once T5 is completed?

""A new 40m deep pedestrianised plaza with a large canopy in front of the terminal to provide a sheltered area for passengers and clear orientation zones to check-in"

I thought that it had been decided that VS are to stay at T3 rather than move across to T4??

Yes, I think VS is staying put with plans to create a terminal within a terminal.

VS would not have spent the amount of money on their new larger LHR Clubhouse if they were considering moving to T4. They are not that free with their cash and they are certainly not that stupid.

There's been a statement about this on the VS web site for some time now (in the 'Latest News' section):

CHANGES AT HEATHROW TERMINAL 3
Our check in and other passenger facilities at Heathrow are undergoing a massive transformation as part of the BAA's development of Heathrow's Terminal 3. The work will transform our check in area, creating a Virgin Atlantic terminal within Terminal 3 which will promise you a quick and seamless journey through the airport. The state-of-the-art facilities are due for completion at the end of 2007.

Throughout the development work, our check in area (A Zone) in Terminal 3 will be undergoing various stages of construction. We are working hard with the BAA to ensure that this work will cause the minimum of disruption but would advise you to check in online for your flight to keep your journey time to a minimum. We thank you in advance for your patience during this time.

Regards

Thanks for clearing my confusion up, I was confused after I saw this rather crappy BAA diagram show repositioning of LHR airlines and it said only Star would be at T3.

IIRC, Star is going to T1

VS dare not move to T4, afterall they have just spent £789,000,020,000,023,965,012,780,45.13 on the new clubhouse AND YOU SHOULD BE GREATFUL FOR IT, RIGHT!!

Sounds like they are slowly trying to tart up T3 (work on the walkways to the gates has been going on forever) but I still get the impression, no matter how many licks of paint and new windows they give it, whilst in the shell it is it'll never be great (except in the CH, of course).

The again, to build something like Chep Lak Kok in Hounslow might be difficult.

I have the same feeling about the refurbishments to the Mander Centre in Wolverhampton.

I have heard conflicting reports on where VS is going. Originally it was mooted that they were off to T1 with the star carriers. Then it was staying in t3 with all non aligned carriers. Then Skyteam are getting 3 and all the non aligned are off to terminal 4 including VS!

Does anyone have a source? Wikipedia- I know, I know unreliable- say terminal 4 but I swear BAA said they were staying in T3.

As people have said- I cant imagine that BAA and VS went ahead with the new clubhouse if they are moving next year!

Not just the clubhouse but VS are planning a 'Terminal within a Terminal' at T3 as part of this redevelopment and beginning to promote it - See Here.

They would not be promoting this, or indeed paying the development costs if they were moving to T4 in the near future.
