Continental Carry On limit 18KG

If everyone carried on a bag weighing 18kgs (40lbs) we would soon run out of storage space. Personally I wouldn't like something that heavy falling out and landing on my head!

Not only would there not be enough space the plane wouldn't get off the ground!!

And that would most definately kill you if it fell out on top of your head!!

My parachute rig weighs 10-12kg all-in...

TSA, FAA, CAA, USPA & BPA say "don't check parachute rigs as luggage", so always ends up with an interesting discussion with VS before I fly these days.

All other airlines are fine. [ii]

Good news for CO customers - I often think that the key difference between US and European airlines is that in the US their customers are much more vocal about their needs, whereas over here we are meek and compliant to every yarn the airlines put out to us. So in the US you can still take two carry ons, plus a higher weight limit.

12kg can cover me for a four/five day trip, including laptop stuff, that would be ideal on all planes. When I pay £1600 in PE for a return to New York for two days work ,I find the 6kg limit very stingy.

On my recent IAD to DEN trip, I saw some really heavy bags almost fall out and hit other passengers. With everyone carrying on a bag and a case, it was difficult to find luggage space, even on a 777. There should be some consistent standard limiting it to a more suitable allowance.

That does sound alot considering some VS routes are only 23kg for hold luggage.

Well, this idiot would like 12kg in PE and UC, there's the space for it. As for all the idiots in America, they should be forced to adhere to a lower limit. And finally, for people being topped by bags falling out of the over head 'hat bins' (as Emirates quaintly call them), serves them right for not taking care, they should sue their fellow pax not the airline. Bring whatever the hell you want on US domestic legs. I do. Everyone else seams too. Baggage claims takes too long.

Agreed Ben, I am one of the few that pack light for domestic flights, I have my carry on that is compact, take no space and can fit down the aisle.The road warriors amongst the flying public and hell ever some of the regular flyers try to bring everything plus the kitchen sink, it is just a headache and another reason I drive rather than fly when I can.

BTW, I was on a flight last night, getting ready to board I watched a pax having an argument with a gate agent about bringing on board two 4 ft vases, of course the pax knew that the chances of them making it through the loading and unloading process in one piece was next to nothing, but I figured the gate agent would have them check them at the gate then pick them up when getting off, I was more than a little surprised to see the vases resting on the pax lap...on a 6 hr flight.
