UC Fares and flexibility

Hi
you answered my questions brilliantly last time so I have one more:
My parents want to go Upper Class to Barbados in Jan 2005. My dad has Parkinsons so they want a bit of flexibility if they need to change dates because he is ill. However, they want to try and get a discount on the fare. They wouldn't mind paying a change fee for out or return sectors or paying up front ie..days in advance but they want some flexibility - any ideas of what kind of UC ticket they should opt for?

Many thanks!
gj

There are three kinds of UC ticket (that you pay for)

J, D and Z

J is the full fat fully refundable changable one
D allows changes at a cost
Z is a 42 day Super Apex and isnt changable outward at least (I think you can change return leg at a fee)

Z doesnt have the limo the others do

Best advice is to call the FC and explain why you might need some flexibility
If you have no joy there I'd advise checking your insurance will cover cancellations relating to this kind of issue

http://www.v-flyer.com/codes.asp gives a small overview.

There are verying levels of each fare, D and Z are APEX (Advance Purchase EXcursion) tickets and have varying levels in terms of days notice needed to book them which will affect the price. The more you pay for the ticket, the more flexibility you have.

Phoning up to check your degree of flexibility and how much changes are going to cost you (if you are not on J tickets) is a good idea.

Thanks,
Richard
