one of the LGW fleet (-VLIP, VROS, VROM, VROY, VGAL) with almost certainty.

as for check in, I think there's over night check in availible at gatwick, in the morning I'd say from about 6 is when you can check in.

although i'm not sure about chack in at gatwick

Welcome to the forum Sarah!

The "What aircraft" tool (accessible from the Resources menu at the top of the screen) is an easy way to find out what planes have been used on which route recently.

On VS27, there was a LHR plane used back in May, but in the last couple of months it's always been one of the five usual LGW planes which are all identical to each other. Go to Resources and select Seat Map then pick the "LGW 747-400" option to see what the seating arrangements will be. Ignore the LGW Suite map for now - no LGW planes have the Upper Class suite yet!:)

Hope that helps.

Welcome Sarah

In addition to the advice you have already been given. You can also make use of the twilight check in at Gatwick, and check in the night before.

You will be allocated your seats and you can get rid of your big cases. This is useful if you are staying in one of the nearby hotels. You can either put your overnight gear in your carry on or leave it in your car.

If you do a search in the forum using the keyword 'twilight' you will get lots more details about it.

Hi

Thanks for that, we are however checking in on the morning of the flight. Am I right in thinking that check in opens about 8am for the 11.15 flight?

I wasn't exactly sure, but a search revealed that it usually opens 4 hours before departure of the first flight that day. So it should definitely open by 7.15am, possibly earlier.

ps. Note to Pix - the search seems to struggle with more than 1 word and occasionally falls over with an ASP timeout.
