I have an UC reward booking on VS24 on Tuesday but for several reasons would like to get on the VS08. I am unable to change it in advance due to no G class availability. However, there are currently 17 seats free in J so if I get to LAX early enough will they let me take one of those empty seats? Does anyone have any experience of doing this?
Thanks
Kevin

Hi Kevin
From the tools I've got access to, both flights look to have good UC availability, although I can't confirm 17 seats - showing as 7+ meaning at least 7.
Both flights look close to capacity on Premium Economy. The main difference is that economy looks well overbooked on the earlier flight (VS08 with no seats showing as available to buy and assuming overselling) wheras the later (VS24) has good economy availability.
I would suspect they are more likely to op upgrade people due to fly on the VS08 first if they need to, rather than bump them to the later flight. It wouldn't take that many of them to close down availability in UC. IIRC, reward flights have the lowest priority. Having said all that, you may be OK and if being at the airport early is no hassle then you've nothing to lose. Let us know how you got on?

Thanks Pat. You raise a good point - I had not factored in the need for op-upgrades and they will take priority over my G ticket. However, seeing as only live 25 minutes from LAX I can check in early and try my luck. If I get turned down I can always go home or have an extra long time in the Air Canada lounge

From my experience in LAX the check in agents will only check in for one flight at a time!
So if your on the VS24 you will not be able to check in early, so therefor will not be able to use the lounge.
This applies to all pax including Upper Class.
They may put you on standby for the VS8 and ask you to return around 1 hour before departure to see if ur on the VS8.
I think check in opens for the VS24 at around 5.30pm when the VS8 leaves.
