I think this is relevant news, since chances are VA will follow suit in the near future?

Has anyone encountered this charge?

Is it for new bookings only, or do you have to stump up at check in?

New bookings only as all taxes etc are paid up front with BA

intrestingly the origonal charge of £2.50 per leg was only introduced in May so BA are almost trippling the charge in just 3 months!

Still they did say they'd review as appriopriate

Virgin have just announced an increase to £6 on their fuel duty costs per pax.

Its interesting that only the scotsman seems to be carrying this so far!

I wonder if BA/VS will lower their surcharge when oil prices drop?

I think it's 6GBP per leg, so 12GBP on a return ticket, perhaps someone can confirm?

True on a 400+ ticket it does not make a lot of difference. But a lot of pax are paying significantly less than that! If you're booking a few months in advance you're looking at <300GBP LON-NYC-LON. Many people will look at expedia, ebookers etc and just get the cheapest ticket they can, prices are very competitive and 12GBP will make a difference.

Still nothing on the VS site about fuel surcharge increases.. i guess the press office aren't keen to advertise it..

It's still only showing a difference of £5 (VS been the cheapest)between a VS Upper flight and a BA CW flight to JFK on Sept 24th returning Sept 26th on a lowest fare. This £5 is the VS online booking discount as the basic fare price (excl. taxes) is the same for both airlines.

When I booked my VS Upper flight in May I paid £5 less than the fare price VS are quoting today as it was booked before the fuel surcharge :)

So as it stands today - VS's Upper Class is still cheaper than BA's Club World on the LHR-JFK route :D :D
