TR from a crew perspective?

Hi guys and girls would a TR from a cabin crew perspective be of interest to anyone? am flying tomorrow and working in premium, i'd be willing to write one if anyone would be interested?! let me know im taking my laptop with me, so by the time i get there tomorrow night UK time, i'll write it if you want to read it!

I will be honest so if i suddenly remember that someone wanted a G&T and i forgot (which i very occassionally do!) i'll put it in. also will of course omit anything to do with security or of a confidential nature. Think it could be interesting specially with the current situation on pay deal, might give you a better idea of what we actually have to do.

Of course i cant rate anything unless you want me to rate my jumpseat LOL the IFE is really bad on that LOL but i will let you know about things that crop up that i have to deal with. It will be a west coast trip on the A340-600 and in either PE or Y.
Could be a laugh if nothing else![|:)]

Certainly of interest. How you view passengers would be of interest.

For example, as a Cabin Crew on a long distance flight, are you able to sense and/or find out from your charts, if a passenger is "fresh" from that boarding airport or is "stale" connecting from somewhere else? I mean, I fly DEL-SFO frequently, and after trying every possible combination, I am settling down on VS because it gives me an overnight rest on the way to SFO and a full day to rest again on the way back to DEL. But when I have done other airlines on this route, I am often unable to find time to even run to the loo or pick up a fresh hot cooked meal or a bottle of water between connections. (eg: CI on DEL-TPE-SFO, CX on DEL-HKG-SFO)

Other thing, somewhere on one of these messages, I read a cabin Crew report that passengers on flights to/from India are supposed to be "very demanding". I don't know what that is based on, but basis my own experience in this industry, I would like to hazard a guess that this has to do with frequent demands for water, juice and veggie food? (The demands for booze are certainly not route specific, I would think, having seen them all over the world). I have asked management at VS before and suggest here too, that a litre bottle of water and a few packs of 200ml juice would solve many of the call-bell episodes. So maybe a genuine open-minded TR on India routes would be welcome, too?

That is a kind offer and as you can see from the replies above, most on here would find it a fascinating perspective.

You would be setting a precedent and who knows, we may see other VS crew members following your lead, which would be cool! [y]

mogmog - the only way the crew can tell is by the smell. Usually people are a bit 'on the nose' if they have just travelled 8+ hrs to LHR then stood in smelly old Heathrow for hours waiting to get through security, all without air conditioning and a lot of the time no deodrent. Can I just add that the toothpaste in your little kit should be used on the flight. There is nothing worse than serving 200+ PAX brekky and having 200+ variations of very smelly breath in your face. After all my years flying I automatically turn my head away so they can speak into my ear directly but still get a whiff now and again!

Re: Indian PAX. I find most of them OK and the constant requests for water and juice don't worry me at all. What really gets my back up is that Indian PAX take forever to take their seats, seemingly bring on their whole collection of worldly good in their bags and then refuse to put them in the overhead lockers and refuse to remove blankets from their laps for takeoff and landing. Then they complain that the flight is late taking off!!! Indian families with babies can be hard work too. They never bring baby formula/diapers/anything to keep the child occupied. I might be a nurse/firefighter/waiter/keeper the peace but I am not a babysitter. An Indian PAX feedback on this would be appreciated.

I doubt VS would consider adding water bottles or small cartons of juice because they have a major 'weight saving' program going on even down to the point that emergency equipment has been removed from the aircraft to reduce weight. Obviously only equipment deemed not likely to be used but shows how keen they are to reduce weight onboard and therefore reduce fuel burn.

In India there is a saying that rules and laws are there for advice only, witness the chaos that is driving! That culture therefore tends to show in flight as well as anywhere else!

As to the original post offer, damn right I'd love to read it.

There's nothing there I wouldn't say about some pax [:I] - you should perhaps also add a "some" for the CC too?

John, remember that the obverse of our normal rules apply, viz, no use of pax names without their permission, same goes for photographs. ;)

Yep, those threads say it all but then what did I expect? Methinks if their employers ever identify them they would learn the hard way.

To be fair in my student days I used to work in a rather well know chain of off licenses/wine merchants and after you get the 10,00th person asking silly questions you do begin to fed up with it.

That being said- I would not be rude back and certainly would not have posted it on an internet forum.

Interesting and enlightening links! To any cc I haven't said goodbye to (ignored???) I apologise unreservedly - but yes, my mind is usually occupied by:

How long will immigration take this time

Can I get off and moving before there's someone in front of me (and there always is) who has to walk very slowly, with bags on either shoulder, hogging the entire width of available walking area, thereby blocking anyone who like to walk at at faster pace

Are they really interested in saying bye to me anyway, aren't I just another irritating punter, whatever class I've flown in that particular day????

hi guys and girls, the TR is up, just to cover myself some detail have been removed, but still should give you a good insight, i wont be doing a return flight report as we had a medical emergency and feel that although i would be of interest im sure that virgin would rather it not be up there needless to say it wasn't too serious and we didn't divert, nor is it of newspaper standards, just feel that it should be posted. having said that the return trip was for the most part fine, services were done to standard, and all passengers got what they payed for.
