Hello everyone, We are off to Antigua, The Beach Club at St James on saturday 4th september, have been reading forums for sometime and have taken plunge to register. Has anyone any hints on how to calm my nerves before flight, I am not worried about the flight, its the airport, went to Kenya a couple of years ago and had panic attack in airport, nearly didn't get on flight, but once I was on plane I was fine. I would be really gratefull for any help.

Welcome to V-Flyer Trod.

First of all I have moved your post from trip reports to this section, so that you will, hopefully, receive more re-assuring replies.

I am sorry to hear that your airports experiences are not pleasant ones. You will have read in the forums that there are lots of people here who do not have problems, in fact quite the opposite. Some of us, myself included enjoy the whole flying experience - even in economy ;).

The VS website has a whole section about beating stress prior to, and during travel

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/pa ... stress.jsp

Flying, as we are constantly assured., is the safest form of public transport.

Hope this helps a bit.

Nick

Hi There

Its a bit late for you now, but Virgin do run a Fear of Flying course (free) that covers various aspects of flight that travellers often have anxiety over. A friend of ours attended the course and she goes to the US several times a year now where as before she used to panic apon arrival at the airport.

If you find that you have difficulty with this flight you could go to the course on your return?

Im off to Barbados the day before you, so will just miss you at Gatwick, but have a great trip, and welcome to the board :)

Depending on what it is that 'sets you off' in an airport, would waiting in a lounge, where it's rather less crowded and chaotic, help?

http://www.holidayextras.co.uk do the Servisair lounge at Gatwick for £17.95, and given that we are now out of school holidays it might be a bit calmer than the main terminal.

Enjoy the whole experience its fun, we have a villa at St James club(time share) so expect an invite to view from John Hamer who sells them, he is a great guy. As per Vrocking do PM me if you need any info etc. The airport is not the best but on the return you will have check in and chill out, so usually only 45-60 mins in airport before departure.

Helen, shame on you;)

Pay the little bit extra and and experience the ultimate Clubhouse at LGW. Trod,If you are travelling with VH then you should be able to do this. I forget how much it is but it is not so expensive.

You will be totally relaxed after a visit there:D
