As I am due to fly on VS27 in April, I to have been keeping an eye on the actual departure times, and the OP is right, there does seem to be a significant number of delays on this flight No. Very rarely does it take off on time, and the most common delays are between 40 and 60 mins. It seems about 8/10 flights have this sort of delay.

Is this route especially prone to delays, or is this the sort of frequency of delays for most routes?

There are numerous threads on here about 'delays' on the MCO route. The most recent being here.

IMHO a delay of 45 minutes is not bad at all. Its the sort of delay that could be caused by something minor like an offloaded pax or lack of gate space on arrival. You must remember that a delay can be due to any number of things ranging from a medical diversion or to the US government not being happy with the API information being provided or more commonly at LGW long lines at security.

You must also remember that quite often MCO has a/c changes between the Manchester route.

During the summer months the route can also suffer from the storms that hit the Orlando airport.

Do you want the bad news or the REALLY bad news? Courtesy of ExpertFlyer 7% of the flights leave on time with an average delay of an hour and a half. The maximum delay in the last 40+ flights was over 6 hours.

[:0] Just 7% !! Surely thats not good, Do VS get fined for these delays, or are they classed as ' Beyond our control'

Which VS route has the best performance for flights being on time?

yet BA's flight from the same airport is virtually always on time.

Go figure....[:#]

VS don't pick up any fines for any regular delays to their services.

7% is a fairly shocking figure - However, Like Will - I also feel that any delay under an hour is common place and reasonably acceptable due to the number of ground based issues with US flights.

Most airlines timetables have 30-45 minutes built into them for these sort of issues so arrival times aren't affected too dramatically.

It's well documented that VS work their LGW aircraft to the max so delays will be more common place. BA's bigger fleet equals more aircraft, so more rotation options if an aircraft is delayed. [:)]

Dont forget that VS are not delaying the flights because they can or because they want to.

Planes departing on time is very important to VS after all one delay can lead to a big knock on effect.

Everyone does there best to ensure a flight leaves on time or if its delayed we always work hard to reduce it as much as possible.

With 8 aircraft based at LGW all arriving and departing between 6am and midday its all systems go when the planes are on the ground.

Help the groundstaff get everyone on board quickly by listening to the annoucements and carrying less hand baggage, oh I dont fall ill during the flight then we can go straight to the destination instead of diverting somewhere. [;)]

It varies, but so far in July, 10 of the 13 flights have been operated by the VS44 from LAS. The others have been the VS16 (MCO), VS70(KIN) and VS72(MCO-GLA and the a positioning flight back to LGW).

I appreciate that this thread is now a couple of years old...But as I am on this flight this Thursday, I too have been checking its time over the past few months, and am please to inform you that is much improved.

From memory only one hour+ delay in the last month.
