Gold Card Too Early?

Hi guys n gals,
Just a quick one for you. I recently payed for 2 different flights, one in Apr the other Jun/Jul. I timed it so that my outbound flight in Jun would get me the 5 tier points req'd to promote me to gold card status.

The problem is though, they have put me at gold card status from when I purchased the flights and not the date I will travel. In short I only have until the end of March 09 to get 30 points, instead of 13 months from my June flight when I reach 40 points.

It's very annoying as the card is doing nothing for me until I come back from my 2nd flight and I wanted to enjoy using the gold card on some cheaper flights later in 2009.

Any ideas if they have made a mistake, or if not, it seems a pretty unfair system for those that book well in advance.

David_Doyle had a very similar 'problem' in this thread..

He found that speaking to the Flying Club got the situation sorted, maybe you could do the same?
