seating allocation no longer available

Hi There,

I'm booked on VS025 (LHR-JFK) and then returning on VS002 EWR-LHR.

When I made the booking (direct using the V-atlantic website) I allocated my seats for both flights.

I went back to the seating allocations via the 'manage your booking' bit of the website and now I can only view/change allocation for the outbound flight. The return flight says 'seating will be allocated at check-in'.

What does this mean? simply a change of aircraft or am I going to be bundled onto an inferior continental flight? does that ever happen?

I'm worried as I had two terrible conti flights before and swore I'd never fly with them again if I could avoid it they were internal US ones though, are the transatlantic routes better?

VS002 flight is 06/04/08 if that is helpful.

Cheers

nntll

Hi - as mentioned many a time before, all this means is that the 60% of seats that are available for pre-booking have been taken so there are no seats for you to move too. On the main page of the manage my booking section, it will still show which seat you are allocated. The rest of the seats open at OLCI stage.

Thanks,
Neil

I think this is covered in the FAQ bit of this site.

Thanks for replying.

I had an unsuccessful look around the forums but should have checked the FAQs, thanks for being patient with me.

I think many of us have panicked when we see that message. I think Virgin could use another message.

Sometimes searching on here isn't easy so don't worry. They don't really bite!!

Really? Using the google search, I just typed 'seats allocated at check in' and the very first thread listed answered this question. I personally think both search functions on the site are very good (plus you could always just have a browse back a few pages!)

You are right that we don't bite though[:)]

I think this is covered in the FAQ bit of this site.

The specific message mentioned isn't covered in the FAQ, but as it seems to be queried an awful lot now maybe the FAQ could be updated to add a bit about what this message means?

Hi,

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but I do have a question relating to this....

On the last couple of occasions I've flown VS I've pre-selected my seats upon booking online a few months before, then have experienced the 60% rule and haven't been able to change it from a month or so before the flight.

When I got to OLCI I have not been able to change seats - it stuck with my previous selection and not allowed me to change it (no access to seat map or anything like that). Is this normal now?

Thanks for your help,

Steve

Yeah I've had this with my last flight, and my flight for tomorrow as well. I can't even change seats when checking in on-line. [n]

if the flight is full or even overbooked, there is a pre-flight unit which looks after groups and families without pre-allocated seats, who assign some(if not all) of the 40% held back. If there are no 'free' or un-allocated seats on the aircraft when you check in online, it will not give you the option to change them. That said, you can still change them at the bag-drop when you hand in your luggage if there are seats available to move to, or failing that, once you get to the gate area, they may still be able to assist if your party is split up.

This will normally happen on the LGW metal if flying premium as no more seats open up at online check in. This is due to the fact that all the unallocated seats are either exit or bulkhead, whcih can only be allocated at the airport check in desks
