Baggage Allowance

Having sorted out my flights and hotels for my forthcoming holiday to Dubai, I thought I'd just check the baggage allowance. Shock, horrors[:0], UC allowance only 30kgs in total[n]. USA it's 3 x 32kgs! Don't know how I shall manage. The only upside is that we only need to wait for two bags to come off the carousel!!

Hi Scarlet,

It's not what I take, it's what I may want to bring back[:w]. Anyway, I can't walk into a posh restaurant just wearing a bikini[:I]

(I suppose diamonds and gold rings don't take up too much room)

Now now think about those with a mere 23kg allowance [n]. To save weight have to throw away the suitcase and start wrapping all the clothes in cling film [:p]

speaking of clingfilm!!!!
we once went to the maldives and wondered why all the cases were wrapped in the stuff!!!
soon found out when our seaplane landed in the middle of the sea and we had to get out onto a VERY small rockin' n' rollin' wooden platform............ WAVES crashed over us, luggage and all

How long are you going for Classy Bird?

You might want to utilise your fill hand luggage allowance on the way back (2 pieces per person).

I had a look at access baggage prices, but they are a bit probitive (about £22 a kg... [:0] )

Boo,

We are away for 8 nights. I did note that we can take 2 x 8kgs as cabin/hand luggage each, plus handbag/laptop, magazines, duty free etc so perhaps not too bad. After all, Dubai is not the cheapest of places to visit. By the time we've spent our money on food and drink and a visit to the gold souk I doubt we shall be bringing an awful lot back with us!

Just changed the pick up time for the CDC [:D], 2pm instead of 3pm.
That should give us about 5 hours in the Clubhouse[8D]. I read a trip report somewhere that a Goodnight service [?] operates on this flight. So we had better have our meal before we fly!!

I agree - to be honest, Dubai isn't great for buying clothes (no cheaper than the UK and not really much more choice than London), so you might as well save the shopping for things like jewellery (which you wouldn't pack in checked baggage anyway...).

30kgs per person (+ fairly good hand baggage allowance) should be plenty for 8 days (since you only need lightweight clothing in that heat).

Clubhouse is lovely - great to have PLENTY of time there [y]

Yes, personally I would eat a FULL meal in the CH, then sleep all the way to Dubai (maybe wake up in time for coffee and fruit before landing). Food is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better in the CH and the flight is fairly short (so make the most of the sleep). We ate in the CH when we flew to Dubai last year and decided to have a quick cheese & biscuits and port once onboard: big mistake - took them an hour and half to get a plate of cheese and biscuits and two glasses of port out of the galley! So much for a 'quick bite' [ii]. Wont make that mistake again...

Thanks for that Boo,

I was contemplating whether to finish off with cheese and port only, but if it's going to take that long, forget it[V].

Please learn from my mistake... [8D].

I definitely wouldn't do that again and you have ages in the Clubhouse to enjoy their food, drink and hospitality [y]

I really look forward to hearing about your trip when you get back [:)]

I would recommend the Clubhouse as the flight time is very rarely over 6 and a half hours down to DXB, so you want to get a lot of sleep, then have a nibble for breakfast, I would recommend the chicken sausage roll and a coffee. I always stand after disembarkation in Galley 2 eating the sausages that are left over, I have been known to have upto 5! Granted it was ramadan, and so had to be very careful lol.

Not too sure on the service on the way home (haven't been since October) but I think it's a lunch service with light bites available, again the flight is not normally much over 6 and a half hours (I think).

Boeingcat, on my way home from Dubai last month we had a snack on boarding, followed by lunch and then a couple more snacks. However that seems to have been the exception as another V-flyer going out a couple of weeks earlier, didn't have the same service flow on his return.
