Yes. This page on the VS site will give you all the info you need about earning miles at Starwood group hotels.

I have just had my Starwood miles transferred to my FC account. Took around 4 weeks.

Have you already paid for the hotel ? Are you seriously hooked on staying there ?

We stayed there a couple of years ago due to it's proximity to Fisherman's Wharf...seriously over priced hotel, it can be found on priceline however, but even then it is not what I would call a steal.

I have recently made a booking for two rooms at The Palace (part of the SPG luxury collection). SPG pricematched the deal Expedia were offering (a simple enough process) so I still get the miles and my SPG Au status is accepted.
Expedia run good offers at times- you just need to keep an eye out.

Honestly SFO is not my city, take a look here to get some ideas.

The Sheraton reminded me of a rather high priced road side motel with staff that were surley at best and damn rude at worst...The location sucks, the hotel restaurant is amazingly overpriced, the high speed internet was dial up at best...the only good thing was the bed, which ever hotel should copy...over than that a firm [n]

Oh and they decided that my SPG gold card was no good...'can't earn point with that' I was told at check in [?]

Yeah....even I was lost for words for a couple of seconds...then I through a tantrum LRoM would of been proud off...

Do yourself a favour and find another place.

thanks very much for that scrooge, I wont go to that place then. Although I think San Francisco is a lovely city, the coastline abit further up into Marin County is knockout, Point Reyes etc

I might book myself into this place:

Sorry, I just realised that you can't go to that link, sorry for the tease. That place looks nicer than the Sheraton IMHO.

I'm Sheraton Gold and am earning about 500 miles a night per stay in a non-expensive Sheraton in Germany each week - the points are calculated on the USD conversion for each stay so nights in Europe and the UK are great for miles at the moment! Recent points transfer took just over 1 month to FC.

Out of interest was the hotel booked with SPG/ the hotel direct or a third party agent (expedia, priceline etc)?

Stayed in the Chancellor Hotel, which is on Union Square. It's no. 6 on the TripAdvisor ratings. It was very clean, very friendly and did brilliant crab benedicts! Free cookies and coffee all day from the reception and good deals on Giants baseball tickets.[:D]

Yes, the bathroom is on the small side and there is no air conditioning (as it's a turn of the 20th century building) which is very clear on their website.

It's on the Powell St cable car line and there is a good diner that does good breakfast just up the block.

I wouldn't hesitate in booking there again in the future.[:)][:)]

I'll second the Chancellor, stayed there in 2005, the rooms were small but nice. The only complaint from me was the regualar noise at night coming from fire engines!

The bar is tiny, but the bartenders were very friendly. Great location for the shopping, and only a hop on the streetcar for most other things [:D]

It's still quieter than most New York hotels where it seems you're only a couple of blocks away from a fire station.

Also agree about the bartenders as well. Another thing is the manager of the hotel, if you read some of the TripAdivisor reports he responds personally to anyone's complaints and to speak to him if you want something special.

If you want to earn SPG points etc then you have to book diretly with the hotel (or Starwood) themselves... if you book through expedia, you won't get the points/miles awarded. I'm rather annoyed by that as I just spent a fortune staying in a very nice Sheraton in Warsaw, and only got 33 points because I'd booked through Expedia!

Use the SPG price promise- they'll match the Expedia/ebookers etc rate and you'll earn miles/qualify for upgrades etc if you have status. They'll tell you reasonably quickly after you submit the form if they'll match the price.
