Options for getting 2 seats together?

I've boobed. Booked flights to the US a few months ago and due to work overload completely forgot to do the online seat allocation thing until now, the two of us are flying out in a week or so.

We're flying out Premium Economy to LA and fortunately I managed to still get two seats together outbound although in a row of three rather than the ideal of two on their own.

However, we're flying back from Vegas in Economy and there simply aren't two seats together that I can book using the online seat system. :(

Are there any other options other than trying the Virgin online thing every day to see if two seats together become available? Give Virgin a call? Or turn up early at Vegas check-in?

Other half will be so upset if she's with strangers for an 11hr flight that I may even consider upgrading to PE for the return flight (assuming PE has 2 seats together). [:0] If there's no other way then is it best to upgrade in advance or at Vegas airport where from memory they always advertise upgrades at check-in.

Do OLCI as soon as it opens 24 hours in advance of the flight. More seats are released at this stage.

Only 60% of the seats are available for pre-selection. The other 40% will more than likely open up at OLCI (24 hours before your flight), so that is your best chance, otherwise get to the airport early.

Thanks for the really quick replies - you learn something new every day so OLCI 24hrs before both flights is now in my calendar with reminders/alarms set. [:D]

Thanks again for taking a weight off my mind!

As to upgrading on the way back I'd always rather have PE on the way back from the way out if possible - after all thats when you need to sleep!

Its easy to panic when all of the pre-bookable seats are gone, but 40% of seats held back does represent quite a large amount so wjile its easy to say, I really wouldnt worry. If you can do OLCI I would think you stand a very good chance of getting two seats together.

Thanks,
Sarah

You see I have the opposite view to this!

After a fortnight of all you can eat buffets and far too much alcohol all I'll do on the flight back is sleep - so why spend hundreds of pounds more when I'm asleep anyway? [:)]

For years I was a cheapskate and we always went Economy but having felt flush last year I treated us to PE outbound. The difference it made to the start of the holiday was immense.

From getting on the plane ahead of everyone else (we were having a pre-flight drink while most other passengers were still at the gate) to the much more comfortable seats to the excellent service - it felt like the extra cost was really worth it but I'm too stingy to pay for that when I won't get the benefit - unless I win big in Vegas (what's the most you can win on nickel slots?)! [:D]

Thanks, yes we'll have a laptop with us so fingers crossed that OLCI works for us!
