Child reward seats

Playing around with reward availability on the VA website I noticed that the miles required for an economy return to NYC in November were 40,500 miles for adults and 22,500 miles for children.

This is the first time I've ever seen different reward rates for kids.

It only appears to be applicable to NY flights though.

Oh, and yes, I do realise economy returns in November are a complete waste of miles whatever the mileage required[:#].

EDIT - looks like St Lucia is the same !!

Interesting find DD. Indeed it seems that this seems to be the norm for NY from the beginning of November right through March of next year and beyond - with a short break around end Dec and beginning of January (but not on the run up to Xmas).

Personally I'm amazed that this is the case and even more amazed that it is not advertised. I've always felt a small reduction for kids is in order - especially in Y - as they get no reduction on taxes and fees which makes using miles for kids very unattractive. Having said that the level of reductions shown here seems overly generous.

There is still a part of me that wonders if this is a mistake.
