Seat Map Locked out?

Now several weeks before my trip (IAD-LHR) and I'm checking all details.
I went to the VS site, put in my Conf. Number to make sure my UC seats are where I booked them. The outbound from IAD was locked out and the return from LHR had one seat moved to the other side of the cabin. So I moved it back to 8A & 9A (We like it as they face the backs of center row) and called VS to check if seats from IAD were the same. She said 'Oh they were'. Hummm. I asked why it was changed and she said aircraft change. Well I know its the same A363 cabin and aircraft and I feel we'll end up scattered on our outbound from IAD, or worse sent to the back as they're PE-UC Upgrades.
Any idea what may be going on?
Why is the IAD-LHR Seat map locked out?
Could this flight be overbooked?
Would On-Line Check-In help ensure the seats?
Sorry so wordy, Hope someone can enlighten me.

I presume when you say 'locked out' you mean you cannot access the seat map? As you may have seen in other similar queries only 60% of seats are available for pre-allocation and once that has been reached you are not able to view the seat map until OLCI opens. If however you go into the Manage my booking page and click on the arrow beside your name it should show your seat allocation request.
It is entirely possible that there have been changes to seat allocations as some of the two daily IAD flights have been cancelled during the next few months and the passengers on the cancelled ones re-scheduled onto the other one which might explain 'aircraft change' even though it isn't strictly speaking an aircraft change.
I would certainly recommend OLCI to try and ensure you get the seats you have requested but please bear in mind they are only requests and can be changed at any time

Thanks honey lamb,
Yup I do me I can't access the seat map. I will go back to the Manage My Booking page and look for the arrow.
BTW Do you know if they still give out those Sleep outfits and the amenity kit. My wife is driving me nuts over this.

[V]No one speak to GJ to mention this heinous crime of calling an amenity kit a 'travel pack'!
erii - yes you do get a sleep suit, a kit containing socks, eye shades, toothbrush and paste in a show bag. The FSM nowadays will come around after takeoff with a dish full of extras like pens, moisturizer and some other odds and sods.

O.K. I've edited the flawed speech. [:w]
honey lamb: You nailed it about the arrows. I've not done the on-line check-in before. I'll give it a try. I assume all it does for the airline is tell them you plan to fly today?

It will ask you for various bits of information such as your date of birth, passport number etc and then ask you to confirm the details before hitting the button to check in. You can print off your boarding pass if you so wish but I don't as I like my purple pass [;)] and in any case there have been problems with the scanners reading the bar code in some instances

The sleep suits seem to have been placed on the Atkins diet of late and are now shadows of their former selves. The suits we had last week were very snug( in the sizes we've allways taken).Mrs erii might want to take a larger size than usual if she wants to be comfortable (nothing worse than restrictive sleepwear).
