Got an email from amex with some tasty flight prices:

NY: 137
Dubai: 221
LA: 315

Bookable before nov 30th

Prob is, when you log into the amex website, and then click on plat home then the ad for the fares, the website isn't available [V]

I got that too and can't access the page either, but don't forget the note that says:

'These are highly competitive prices, but don't forget all fares are subject to taxes and surcharges '

So I imagine that once the taxes/surcharges are added they will be nothing special.

is this a new way of selling air fares then? To advertise them with absolutely no tax whatsoever? Tsk.

I just tried a booking to see how much an economy ticket comes out at...

Well, isn't that how BA and FR already do it? Yes, they do. That's why they sucker people into the prices they have.

I though the ASA and the OFT had ruled that unlawful and all fares quoted had to include all taxes and charges.

I wonder if it different because they aren't publically advertising these rates? Only available for UK Amex Plat/Cent card holders, notified by email with the text very clear underneath the rate quoted?

Still rather annoying, much rather see the actual cost to me quoted but I guess they have to get attention.

I'm on the mailing list with a travel agent and all the offers they send me are for fares minus taxes and other charges - however, it is stated very clearly that that is the case and they have examples of the likely taxes so you can make an estimate as to the true cost of a ticket.
