I've just gone silver - which I think means I'd get 1.25 times mileage when I fly? If that's so, then am a bit puzzled.... just been looking at UC flights to Orlando. I logged into flying club and went through the flight screens - says the flight I chose would get 15176 miles... so I logged out and just input the same flight parameters, this time not as a ff - and it says I''d get ..... 15176 miles! Er, shouldn't it show a different number of miles I'd get when I'm identified as silver? Or is that not how it works???

Hmmm, not sure where you are looking, but ex LGW I get the following:

UC return (lowest) as FC Red = 17344 miles
UC return (lowest) as FC Silver = 19598miles

It is ever so slightly less ex MAN. The extra 25% is on the base miles flown.

Doesnt that extra 25% get cancelled out by the new miles reduction from FC[n]
It interests me because next month i go silver and i thought any benefit of extra miles were gone[:(].

Well it all depends on what fare you are flying on. Obviously the mileage will be changed as per the new earning levels, but as Ag you will still earn 25% extra. Ok it might not compensate a lowest fare earning against a full fare, but it is still better than no extra at all.

Just via the VS site - and flying from LGW! How weird - I checked it twice....

Nope, still most definitely showing 15176 miles - this is for end April 09, time of year surely makes no difference???

Aha! Seems to depend which flight time - slightly later flight is the 15176, the more expensive and earlier one states 17344. Regardless of that though - there still appears to be no difference in miles whether I'm logged on as fc or not....

When I try the Earning Calculator on the VS website for UC to MCO as a Silver passenger after December 1st (when the earning levels change) I get 19598. This is regardless of whether it is in a Z, R category or a J,D category which suggests to me that there is a glitch in the system for after that date.

Claire, I don't know where you are getting 15176 miles on a route to MCO as I can't find it anywhere on the earning calculator [?]

I'm simply going onto the VS site and putting in flying from London to MCO.... trying it that way (ie, as someone not being a fc member). I've done the same thing but logged into fc first....am I missing something, how else can I do it?

OK, while I couldn't go to that link since it relates specifically to your query and would have timed out I did some digging of my own. I see where you got the 15176 miles from. That was from the price matrix when selecting your fares.

What I did was to check the mileage on the price matrix for my last flight which was to SFO. The miles quoted on the matrix bore no resemblance to what was on the earning calculator nor to what I earned. As you correctly stated it did not recognise any membership status. I did then check the miles on my account against those on the earning calculator and found that they matched accurately. I therefore would suggest that you check with the EARNING CALCULATOR and that should give you a better idea of the miles you will earn. A word of warning, however. The bonus miles you will earn in each class changes on December 1st. However the calculator still shows the current earning level and does not yet show these changes. It does however give a clearer and more accurate reading than the price matrix.

I'm still a tad confused. I'm looking at booking my return home over the Christmas week, from NYC to LHR. I'm Gold, and have plugged in my dates for a PE lowest priced ticket.

The price matrix comes up with 8,646 miles earned. This is way off. The earning calculator comes up with 13,902 miles earned for a PE lowest priced return ticket.

From Dec 1st I understand it to be 125% for PE & 150% for Gold.

6,916 - Base
1,729 - 25% PE
3,458 - 50% Gold
-----
12,103

If I plug the same flight in, but a month earlier, in November, then the price matrix gets it correct at 13,900 miles earned.

So is this a site error whereby after December 1st the price matrix seems unable to take into account your FC status, but it is perfectly capable of taking it into account before Dec 1st?? Or am I missing something and something else has changed regarding earning miles post Dec 1st?

aft1981, the earning rate/table changes from 1 Dec. Log into your VS account, and check the annoucement on VS website.

remember, you have to keep giving them money in order to keep your current flyingclub status.

And you point is what, that this is unfair, that it's unusual, that status should be given freely to anyone with a Clubcard?
