Lost/Stolen Items onboard

I am after some help/advise please ?
I recently lost/had stolen three items during a recent flight. It was not until after I had disembarked that I noticed. Two of the items are of a high monetary value whereas the third is more sentimental value (i.e my late mothers wedding ring).
I immediately rang the lost property office but was told I had to wait 24hrs from the flight for the items to be handed in/reported by security staff so I rang daily whilst overseas. (I also rang the premier team and anyone else who may assist but was passed to the India call centre). Upon my return flight I spoke with the helpful FSM (as the ground crew are local employess they could offer no assistance)who completed a full report and advised 'someone would be intouch' - well that was a week ago and I have heard nothing from anyone.
I have now Emailed SRB in desperation - I need a ref number to claim from my insurers but more worringly I wonder where my items have 'dissapeared' to ? I am still hoping to get the wedding band returned and am gutted (to say the least) that it is no longer on my finger.
Anyone had a similar experience to mine and can offer any advice - hitting my head against a brick wall would bring me more satisfaction than I am getting at present ?
Many thanks,
Hackneyguy

That is very worrying.
Do you know when and where they went missing? Were they in your cabin baggage?
If I was in your position, unless I was pretty sure they had been lost as opposed to being stolen, I would be looking to make a police report- either at you point of departure, point of arrival - or both.

Nick,
Thanks,
I am 100% certain the two items were left in the suite pocket - as for the ring as I only noticed it missing when collecting my bags . Perhaps I am too late now to make a report - I honestly thought they would be handed in (so nieve I guess) . . .

I only have one experience of this I regret. Left a newish iPaq in the arm rest with the arm rest down. The moment I got off the plane I realised what had happened and approached the ground staff. They had the plane checked but it was no longer there. Sorry not to have more cheery news.

My recent experience of something similar provoked an unsatisfactory response from Premier who concluded that the left on board item had probably been taken by another passenger anyway (the item was left in the suite pocket so IMHO unlikely to have been taken by another passenger). The lost property dept were even more unhelpful.
I too would recommend making a formal report of your losses to the police in the absence of any response from VS to date
DL.

Very sorry to hear about this - it's so painful.
This happened to me a couple of years back with items of no real value - I had the habit of switching my SIM card from my US one to my European one as I boarded, so I did this and left the US card in a box in the UC armrest - fatal place I fear. There wasn't much chance of anyone else taking it - and why would they care anyway? I assumed this would not be an issue, and we'd get it back - but alas no. Given how easy it is to replace this, I didn't really push too hard, but I wasn't all too confident we'd ever see it again talking to the folks on the phone. They were very nice though, it has to be said. Just we were basically at the mercy of the cleaning crew picking out that this should be kept and returned. Given how pissed off I was, I can only imagine how you feel right now.

Someone could open a pharmacy with the number of packets of sleeping tablets I have mistakenly left behind. Because this is the only time I use them I just seem incapable of remembering to take the remainder off the plane with me.
Sorry to hear of your problem hackneyguy and hope you do find your ring.

HG, I really hope you get your ring back.
On a slightly more positive note, several years ago when flying SQ I left my PSP behind and didnt realise till I got to my hotel. I called SQ and they were really good, once I'd managed to explain to the lady on the phone what exactly I had lost ('small games console' ... dead silence [:)]) they called the cleaning teams and I was told it had been handed in. They offered to deliver it to my hotel but I was going back to Changi the next day so said not to worry and that I'd pick it up at the airport and they delivered it to check-in for me. I only wish we were as honest in the UK. If that had been at LHR instead of Changi I can well imagine that there would have been some light fingered individual who would happily have made off with it.
Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah (& others) for your replies,
When I initially spoke to a rep at LAX and later called them I was told the aircraft would undergo a sweep by a security team before any cleaners etc are allowed on board so they 'would/should' recover my items especially as I told them where 2 of them were and probable location of the third. Well I am still hoping - I really am ....

HG

HG,
I really hope your ring turns up. As for the money well....
Things do get handed in, I left my Nikon digital camera on board and only realised when I got home. Entirely my fault although I do also propotion some of the blame at some other v-flyers who plied me with drink during the flight. Anyway I phoned VS and it had already been handed in and they would post it out to me.
Here hoping for you
Iain

Hi Ian
Sorry to hear of your losses.
Four years ago we landed at LGW and upon entering the immigration area my wife noticed her purse was missing, she had paid for some duty free and had put it in the pocket in front of her!
We managed to contact someone who called back to the aircraft who checked and said NO it was gone already? And was never handed in.[n]
As we travelled in row 1 and had been the last out of the cabin it can only point to:
1) Cabin Crew, very unlikely, but....
2) Cleaners, highly likely....
Monarch could not give a toss and were so unhelpful, the way they treated my wife was disgraceful, since then we have not flown with them (outbound had been a nightmare as well) they can stick there charter flights.
Fingers crossed someone has a conscience and hands the ring in, good luck mate.
Ian

Thanks Ian,
Still no news.
Like you, I was last out of the cabin however I was 'assured' that before the cleaners came aboard there would be a security sweep of the cabin to find lost items - as my items were not found by them (although other items were found apparantly) I can only assume they are no longer 'lost' at that time - very sad state of affairs indeed. I just wish someone at Virgin Atlantic would find the courtesy to return one of my Emails, the FSM report or numerous telephone calls . . . .I can't even put a claim in on insurance without that and I am now getting into a flight cancelling mood !
