Just got a email through from virgin, a nice corp deal. Book two or more Y/B/L or PE/UC equivalent flights by 9th April and get up to 100,000 bonus miles. Perfect for the business travellers amoungst us out there.
It is a corp deal, and doesn't appear on the VA member site anywhere. If the mods ok it - I'll post the link up for all to benefit. If not, no harm done [;)]
Let me know.
(this is open to UK/US only as I read the t&c's)

Think this is open to everyone - I also got an email.
100,000 miles for 4 round trip D/J's in a little over 6 weeks is quite a big ask [:0]

And the 'corporate deal' isn't actually. It's an email sent out to FlyingCo. administrators for their PASSENGERS to take advantage of, not the company.

I have also recieved the offer and you have to register to be eligible. I think the offer sounds very attractive but in reality not quite as easily achieved in the 6 weeks timeframe as David suggests, even for the big time jet setter.
Thanks,
Sarah

Naturally when I got the email a headline like 'Red Hot Offer' and '100,000 bonus miles' got my attention.
I then read that to get the max, 3 returns (6 legs) need to be completed in UC and then only with certain booking classes.
Desperation.......
Obv numbers are down - How many new bums on seats will this offer actually achieve?

Max is actually 4 returns, in J or D, so 8 flights between now and 9th April.

Now, if VS had dropped an offer like BA's, with a 'buy one L/S/W/D/J, or buy one G with miles, get another free, I would bet that the itinerary section would have a lot of new posts shortly [:D]
Thanks,
Sarah

Yup, your right, even worse.
If they want to give miles away (Im sure a price reduction or the abolition of fuel surcharges would work better) then why not just offer doulble miles for a selected period of time. I think this is roughly the same but would benefit all pax in all classes and would not require 8 legs to be flown in 2 months.

Let me throw the grenade in.
If they wanted more bums on seats, they could always allow their Companionn tickets to be used on ANY fare. I have 2 recently added to my account, and can not see either being used right now.

I wouldn't call it a grenade - it's not that bad a suggestion to be honest. Or let people upgrade using miles from any fare would be another.

People, I would like to remind you that it is these type of ideas that cause the people at VS problems, they spend a lot of money coming up with these promotions, knowing full well that nobody with half a brain would actually use them.
If VS were to start giving out companion tickets that were actually worth anything, well where would we be ?
The credit card would be worth getting, certain awards would be worth getting, this crazy line of thought must stop now people [V]

I was quite excited when I saw the hook and it mentioned where I was flying next. But please...four UC flights by the 9th April is a hell of a lot of red eye for 100k.

I suppose the only people who may benefit are J & D pax whose firms pay for their tickets, but allow employees to keep the points.
Loads of those about at the moment, I bet. [;)]
As Scrooge has alluded to earlier, the maxim for recent VS offers, either direct from the airline, or via the credit card has been - Make them look attractive, but make sure they don't cost us anything. [V][:(!]

Press release now in.
Pity I haven't got a few Upper Class flights to do before April 9th! Oh, yes - I haven't got any...

If you actually bought the required 4 D/J fares on a VS credit card, you be earning a sizeable mileage bonus anyway anytime throughout the year. Really not one of the greatest VS promos to be honest - Hardly the
John Lewis vouchers, the
present per sector, the
2 free flights in Economy, the twice run triple miles (up to 8 sectors) or
'One Big Offer' standard that we've seen in the past.

And I suspect the people making the bookings for flights aren't really that influenced by this offer are they.
All gloss and no shine.

8 long haul flights (they have to be as all VS flights are) in 6 weeks, all in the highest fare buckets available.
Riiiiight.
Bait? [:w]

Actually, ukcobra's suggestion would probably bring extra revenue VS's way, since people would be more inclined to book a flight to take their partner (given a deadline), rather than let their companion rewards lapse (as I'm sure many do; mine do normally), whereas letting people upgrade from any bucket class doesn't bring in any more cash - and that's what Virgin are looking for right now.
The 'One Big Offer' of some years ago was a stonking deal (I remember cleaning up in PE & Upper on that one), so it would be nice to see that again. But if Virgin really want to get the tills ringing, they have to do something significant, and with a proper end date. Not these DFS-style never ending sales where the offer price isn't really much different from what you could get last month (or next month). Do a Z class sales fare, but throw in double miles and a CDC - but only if booked before X, and limited availability until Y. Something to make people turn possible plans into bookings.

Having a sale to match BA right now would be a good start. I'm looking at flights for Bay to Breakers in May - VS is over £3k for the dates I need, if I am flexible I could get it down to ~£2550.
Hop over to BA, CW is £1690 or with shareholder discount, £1560. Talk about where to spend the money.

I've used 1 Companion Ticket to South Africa, and let last years Lapse. I am likely to let my AU renewal and CC spend Companion Ticket lapse.
I've never let a BA Companion Ticket lapse, the ease of using these is fantastic.
I agree with Pete, I would be inclined to use them, if it was in my interest to do so. i.e a financial incentive or date. Personally I now see them as worthless.
Normally it's cheaper to buy 2 'reasonably' priced tickets than use the 'benefit' I earned. Particularly as you earn miles on both purchased tickets.
Allow me to use it on a low cost UC ticket, and I'd be booking 4 seats tomorrow.

I'm still basking in the warm glow of the Triple Miles Promo that we earned on our J down to SYD three years ago.
Just short of 150k miles for £5000 for both of us. Don't think I'll ever beat that!
