Hello,

We booked with Virgin for the first time, a flight from LHR to LAX (VS023) on the 18th of May. A few days ago i received an e-mail that the flight was cancelled and we were rebooked on the VS007 (same day only earlier). I phoned Virgin to find out what was wrong, but no one could give me any information. Does anybody here know why the flight is not flying on the 18th of May?

I also saw that it can't be booked on the 19th of May, but from the 20th onward it can be booked again?!?

Kind regards,
Patrick

Could be any number of reasons, such as aircraft being scheduled for maintenance checks, or simply consolidating passengers onto one flight if demand is too low to fly two flights in one day. Given the financial climate at the moment, I'd put my money on the latter.

Patrick,

Welcome to V-Flyer.

Would certainly agree with what Pete is saying. It's quiet in California. Two flights a day made sense for VS when those on the other side of the Pond were visiting the US in droves. But with everyone's pocketbook shrinking and the GBP and Euro heading a bit south ... well, you get the point. Two days of savings for a roundtrip over 10,000 miles in an Airbus 340 would be substantial, particularly if no revenue is lost by moving pax to the remaining flight.

So would I. We're on the VS07 at the end of June and the seat map in manage my booking shows a virtually empty cabin at the moment (apart from us).Amalgamated flights are going to be a recurring theme over the coming months I think.
