Anybody Else Had This Call?

I am flying to LAX on Sat in Economy. I have had a courtesy call this evening from Virgin Atlantic to check everything is OK. Had I got my e-ticket (yes), completed ESTA (yes), can he book anything else for me such as a special meal (err no - never had a special meal) or am I looking to upgrade with miles (no). It then finished with have a nice flight.
In all my flights with Virgin I have never had a call like this - is it a new thing (I last flew to IAD in March) or should I be slightly worried that I am being singled out for something?

Nice touch!
My guess is, that the primary purpose of the call would be to sell you an upgrade (either with miles or cash). It is no secret that Virgin (and all other airlines) are trying to maximise their revenue at the moment.
This seems a good way of selling a few PE seats upfront, and possibly encouraging a little brand loyalty from passengers at the same time.

Given the destination, could it be an intelligence gathering exercise, trying to gauge if people with existing bookings may not fly (may even just no-show) to California because of the swine flu outbreak?

Also wonder if it is targeted, or not, at those who buy full-fare Y's?

Thanks everyone
We are on N fares on the way and K on the way home
With hindsight I should have asked a bit more about upgrading with miles - it caught me off guard a little bit! He definately only offered a miles upgrade, no mention of cash. I am currently saving miles hard for an Australia trip again so I can't afford to part with any at the moment

Am intrigued to hear if any UC get a call to see if they're keeping well ahead of their flight, given no ability to upgrade further. Or if its a courtesy, concierge style service....

There's still a fair few seats around and they are flying both flights on 340-600s so I am wondering if they are thinking about pulling one of the flights and putting everyone on the other as they have done in a fair few cases (but not at such short notice)
