VS today announced that we will be operating 25 flights to Puerto Rico during the winter 2009/2010 season.

The weekly service will route via Antigua.

They are mainly to support Virgin cruises but will also be offered as scheduled fares.

Flight VS081 will leave LGW at 10:25 and arrive in San Juan at 16:05.

Good news I feel.[:)]

Never a bad thing to see a new route. I wonder how many seats will be available for scheduled pax versus cruise passengers.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks,
Sarah

Nothing on the website yet...

And their call centre staff are currently denying all knowledge of it - Just called to see if I could try and amend a future KIN booking to SJU as that would be more convenient...

Will it be a Saturday Service replacing the existing ANU Saturday one or a new Sunday Service giving ANU an extra frequency?

The Press Release is on TravelMole Barnstaple...

The first flight is saturday 7th november so will just use the existing ANU service and the last flight is 24th April so looks like they will all be on a saturday.

Yes I have seen that. I guess they haven't filtered it through yet...

This thread reckoned 80% of the seats would be for cruise passengers

Not long since VS management were denying any such plans and instructing staff:

Not surprising their staff get confused...

Funny that isn't it - but as we all know rumours have to start somewhere regardless of how strenuously our management deny it!

Good news to get another new route! I hope to see a few more even through these difficult times! Maybe virgin will do a Ryanair and capitalise on the boom! Quick question are you sure about those times, they seem very tight for a stop in ANU.

I dont doubt Virginboy747's accuracy it just puzzled me how it could be done.

I am not surprised at all that any route expansion has come from VH/VC demand. As we said a number of months ago in a thread on possible future destinations, VH/VC essentially guarantee bums on seats for VS. VS get to by pass any of the uncertainties with starting a non VH route. I wouldnt be surprised if we see more moves like this, especially given that VH is expanding.

BTW hasn't VS operated cruise charters to SJU before (along with MSY as well)? I seem to recall seeing some pictures on a.net and believe one of the crew regulars on here (at the time) crewed on one of the SJU flights.

It could be that the aircraft routes LGW-SJU-ANU-LGW. That would make sense on those times I believe.

I certainly operated one of the cruise charters on a A343 from LGW to SJU - it was a fantastic trip and destination! [^]

I tried for November, 3,637 pounds in UC eek. Have all the Z's gone already?

Hmm, im not up with the Upper Class selling patterns. I never get to fly it lol. Maybe its like BA was when they launched their new routes the cheapest options weren't available on the first day of booking. Or it could be because of the combined ANU flight so the previous bookings on the original VS33 may have taken all the Z fares.
