I've yet to meet a US immigration employee with a sense of humour, but if there is a chance the 'what the hell have we here' button will get pressed why not get him to change before landing and back again straight after customs?

Hmm... good question. Would have thought you'd be OK on the plane, as the Daffyd outfit is hardly offensive (well no more so than some other pax's choice of attire - see Northernhenry's excellent TR about a recent MAN-MCO flight!)
US Immigration is a different kettle of fish though. All you need is one of the less friendly officers who is having a bad day and the slightest comment / attempt at humour would not be welcome & could lead to a visit to the waiting room for extra checks / questions. Other officers would share the joke and enquire about the Daffyd character.
Sensible move on the seat upgrade btw!

I'd agree with the get changed before landing approach. You are effectively at the whim of one person so best not take any chances.

Your over thinking it, immigration isn't going to care what he is wearing, put a sticker on him that explains why he is dressed the way he is, they can laugh as much anyone.
The thing with Vegas is, they have seen it all before, I doubt you will even get a comment.

Thanks for reinforcing why any visit to Vegas is more desirable with a change at LAX or SFO [B)].

Remember the Daffyd clothing will also be rather tight fitting (aieee, my eyes, my eyes), and probably be very uncomfortable to wear for the long flight. Don't forget that your body does swell slightly at altitude because of the change in air pressure. If the costume isn't stretchy enough, it could be the beginning of a problem.
Your poor mate will probably be crippled before he even gets there.
Do him, and the other 430 people you'll be sharing that metal tube with for 11 hours, a favour and save the fancy dress for when you've arrived in Vegas.

And trust me, if bad taste in clothing was a reason to be barred from entry certain members on here would have been barred years ago.

I've seen members of the crew dressed as Elvis going through immigration at Vegas. That was a weird flight...

On my last Vegas trip a few weeks ago, there were a group of 12 Elvis's on the plane out, they were quite a way behind me in the immigration queue so no idea if they got through without hassle
