New UC Menu Lon - US - June '09

Hi All - flew to the US yesterday thought you may want to have an insight into the new menu...

Starter...
Pea & Something Soup (think it was bean)
Smoked Salmon Salad

Main...
Chicken on broad bean broth with boiled potatoes
Steak & Mushroom Pie with champ potatoes
There was a vege option but can't recall what it was...

Desert...
Strawberry Roulade
Baked Honey Cheesecake (a but weird as it is served warm but good!)

There was also T10 onboard for those that worry about such things [:p]

The veggie option is Creamy Aspargus Risotto and the T10 is onboard until 1 July.

Doesn't sound the most amazing menu by any stretch, all seems very run of the mill and nothing too inspiring.

Being a Vegetarian who finds Aspargus an anti-social vegetable to eat on a long flight and who also can not digest rice it looks like I will be hoping for some edible snacks and nibbles or going hungry (again !).

I skipped the starter as the options didn't appeal to me!

I had the Steak and Mushroom pie which was ok - but not as good square pie

I have in the past but generally it has been a vege curry which I can not eat.

I have seen meals ordered that do not contain certain things - ie. onion, spices etc. Maybe see if you order one without rice.

Sounds a bit dull to me. Wonder what the light bites are for VS7/19/23?

I wonder if it's a 'bean counter broth' and a 'pea and bean counter soup'?

Might be tempted to take a food parcel on VS19 next week.

Anyone know what the PE choices are?

Well, while not earth shattering, there are one or two things there I could eat. I'd be interested to see what the lighter bites are though, as an alternative to a starter

As I like to do every now and again, lets compare this.....food with what CO is offering to London shall we.

Warm roasted nuts with your preferred cocktail or beverage

HOT APPETIZER CART

A demitasse of morel mushroom soup accompanied by
a grilled rosemary shrimp skewer and beef empanada,
with Amazon sauce

SALAD and warm breads

Mesclun salad mix and romaine lettuce with roasted yellow
tomato, cherry tomato, red onion and fresh mozzarella cheese

Your choice of La Flora Italian herb vinaigrette or creamy

FFS, when is it going to get any better? Predictions for the next quarters menu:

Starter:
- Tesco value chicken soup (bread rolls only available to Upper passengers, strictly one per customer)

Main:
- Bernard Manning 'Turkey' Drumsticks and Tesco value beans
- Virgin Bubble & Squeak (sponsored by Greenpeace as we're using the slops from the last week)

Vegetarian option:
- Recent research has shown that the non-vegetarian meals are more popular, so we have replaced it with an Iceland Roast Dinner platter.

Dessert:
- Walls Vienetta (but we only have 12 pieces so we are conducting a raffle)
- Tesco Value Raspberry Jelly

All served on the finest Tesco disposable paper trays.

Wine list:
Blue Nun
Freixenet 'Champagne'

And the stupid thing is, out of HKG they normally provide a very good meal in UC, why it can't be done out of the UK is beyond me, well no it's not, it's money.

LOL!

Can't wait for CO to join *A. Even if you still see through the verbiage, their selection sounds blooming great.

VS really need to take off those rose-tinted specs and look at the competition.

They are either deliberately running UC food on a ridiculously tight budget compared to their competitors, have an unnecessarily expensive supply chain (meaning they get less bang for their buck), or are just naive and being royally screwed by LSG over the inflight product.

That menu sounds absolutely shocking, I was looking forward to my flight next week. Comes to something when Iberia serves better on a 2 hour flight in Business from Madrid.

And I think that's what has me so annoyed, I went through this with my old company, the execs had it in their mind that the property was the best one in Vegas, of course it wasn't and yet to this day they still think it is....and they are losing money hand over fist.

VS are doing the same thing, great PR will get you so far, but it doesn't take long for the consumer to figure out that the product just can not back up the PR.

Maybe M&S should set up a Simply Food stall outside the clubhouse so you can stock up on your way to the gate.
