Flying to New York ( JFK ) on Friday. Any advice which is the best side to sit on the aircraft for a good view of NY as you come in to land ?
Thanks
Edit to thread title by mod for clarity....Nick

IIRC most transatlantic planes fly in following the coast of Long Island and then take a right to land its the 'K' side you need to be on but to be honest if you are expecting a spectacular view of NYC from the air you will be dissapointed.

It's flying into EWR that has the really great views of NYC. JFK is quite disappointing

The prevailing weather at JFK being westerly or south westerly almost invariably you land from the east so have no views of Manhattan at all.
I always sit on the K side going, and A side back, so I can have the window blinds open without sunshine.

You used to get fantatic views of Manhattan when flying Concorde if sitting in K - now on a sub sonic they tend not to fly anywhere as close and I have yet to see anything either to/from JFK or EWR.

I once saw Manhattan from the right hand side of the aircraft after taking off from JFK. Though every time I've left JFK, we've taken off in the opposite direction (ie away from Manhattan) and haven't seen a thing.
Newark is the airport to go to for brilliant views of Manhattan.

Last time I landed at JFK we passed to the south of the airport, before turning right and eventually coming in from the northwest, with a curved approach across Brooklyn and Queens. On this occasion there were decent views of Manhattan from the left side of the aircraft. However every other time I've landed at JFK we've either come in from the south-east, or the weather has been awful and we haven't been able to see anything.
