Want to get away for New Year maybe New York, anyone have any advice when would be the best time to book, I know prices are random and that time of year can be expensive, but am hoping for a good deal? Thanks[?]

I think you have summed it up quite well. There was a fairly good sale for NYC recently for flights up until Mid Dec and then straight in the New Year with Y fares in mid 200's and PE for 495, however this has just finished. Of course we all expect another sale shortly, but nothing has started just yet, but this will be the best and cheapest way to book your flights I imagine.

If you are wanting to go for New Year then I think you should book as soon as poss, as it is a VERY busy time for travel to NYC and prices are only likely to go one way, with the cheaper fare buckets selling out first.

Otherwise, the best advise is book when you are happy with the price, and then don't look back.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the best time to book is during the best sale. Sounds easy, but it is always a bit of a gamble - when is the best sale?

Sales are movable feasts - they vary by route, by date and by price.

If your want to be in New York for New Year, then bear in mind that it is during school holidays. This makes most destinations, including B&S route, more expensive, but sometimes means business routes are cheaper.

VS are currently 'between sales', there will be a number of opportunities to book a sale fare before January, but choosing the right one will be the key.

I think the bottom line, as many have said before, is - When you see a price you think is right, book it! then - Don't look back! [8D]

Sorry that is a bit vague, but airline pricing is not an exact science.

Thanks for the advice, it's a gamble I guess, prices don't seem too bad for UC at the moment so maybe take your advice Neil and book asap. Thanks again

Yes you are right, booked my UC seat to SYD last year then got annoyed with myself as I checked back a few times and it had gone down Note to self, do not check prices after booking!!!!

It all come to down to what's more important to you: Price or Date.

If it's Date, the best time to book is when you know the dates you want to travel. If the price doesn't make you baulk, then book, but as Neil says, don't look back. (I think everyone goes back and rechecks but that can be infuriating!)

If it's Price, and you can be flexible. Jan - Mar is always cheaper as NYC is freezing! And of course there are no school holiday etc.

If you did have enough points though there is quite a lot of redemptions all over the festive season.
