Has anyone tried the new 'Buy before you fly' duty free shopping please? Its the new website and I have only used the old system. It says get 10 FFC miles for every 1 spend but is that for newly joining FFC members or for old members as well? Appreciate anyone's knowledge Thanks

its for all FC members..Spend over 30 and you get 10miles per
must admit I very rarely buy from duty free as you can get most things for same price or cheaper by shopping elsewhere online
if you are checking in to a Virgin flight before August 31st, you also get a 6 voucher to spend on duty free on board, on purchases over 30

hmmm 300 miles for a 30 spend might just be worth it plus I assume I'd get my normal VS Amex points too.
any of our resident miles whores out there have an opinion?

Depends on what you buy. The FC shopping partners may yield a better haul. Amex miles still apply.

Thanks everybody. It's handy to order and pick up for the return trip. As tontybear says I will get the Amex points as well.

I've found for certain things (usually tobacco), VS are way cheaper than airports.
You also get the VS/VH spend bonus (x2 or x4 miles, depending on what colour VA Amex card you have) if your buy VS duty free with your VS Amex card.

This would seem excellent when going to Dubai as the tip from everyone would be to buy duty free before leaving the airport because of the high alcahol prices once there, otherwise i have never bought duty free to take with me on holiday as its seems like too much work luggin heavy bags around plus luggage.
cheers

Buying at Dubai airport is the only option, unless you are a resident and have a liquor license. Apart from the hotels of course....
