Am heading to New York on Sunday for three days in the office. Short notice, J fare unjustifiable but would upgrade with miles if possible except look at the UC loads on Sunday:
VS3 - J3 D0 R0 Z0 W1 S0 K0 Y9 B9 L9 M9 Q9 X9 N9
VS45 - J2 D0 R0 Z0 W9 S9 K9 Y9 B9 L9 M9 Q9 X9 N9
VS9 - J0 D0 R0 Z0 W9 S8 K7 Y9 B9 L9 M9 Q9 X9 N9
(Continental for good measure - J0 D0 R0 Z0 Y3 B3 L3 M3 Q0 X0 N0)

With loads in UC like that, I can understand why no sale.

This is good to see, from talking to my FA friends flights have been going out full, but what are the yields like? Judging by the open fare codes I would have to say pretty good.

Having done many East Coast's in the last few weeks, I haven't seen an empty seat in J on any of them!

With the Government contracts moving to VA (alledgedly)I would expect to see many routes to the East Coast be very busy in J and others too if VA discounts their leisure travel too (which I have no doubt they will).

My flight to BOS had two empty UC seats. Crew said it had been like that for quite some time.

I had the opposite on VS09 this past Friday, 4 Sept. UC was wide open - probably 20 empty seats. The entire middle 'row' (D/G seats) was empty, in addition to some empty A and K seats.

Would government contracts lead to a significantly increased demand for J ? In these straitened times I'd rather hope that they'd be watching my pennies just as my employer watches his..

Yes - I think they will.
Given that they may have negoiated a very good deal - it may well cost less to the Tax Payer to fly J than it would for you to fly in W or Y which is never as discounted as much !

But will they be offering the govt J fares at less than they would offer the govt W or Y? The discount may be greater as you go up through the classes but surely the net amount for the ticket will still be less in the in W than in J and less in Y than in W? Our travel provider offers well discounted J and W fares but they are still more than the discounted Y fares that are the only 'in policy' method of travel for our 80,000+ employees....
...ultimately though, pay me no heed, I'm just envious of anyone who has an employer that will let them fly business class.
