V-Flyer

We're off to Antigua next week with VS and while I've read all the TRs I thought I'd ask if anyone can offer us any tips to smooth our way through the airport.

Well arriving into ANU - advise run to imigration! Last time I landed there we had to stand outside in the heat because the immigration hall was so busy!

Despite having done it a couple of times, my memory of arriving into Antigua is a bit of a blank, so it either wasn't a particular problem or was so horrendous I've blanked it completely - no, hang on, Havana is still there and that's the worst ever so Antigua must have been no worse than any other caribbean arrival.

Key tips - patience and a bottle of water.

Good advice for arriving at any destination. I always keep a full bottle of water with me for when I arrive anywhere.

I seem to recall helpful baggage handler trying to extort more than the aggreed fee to help move our bags so watch out for that.

Also opinions differ, but for the return jouney (not that you are thinking overly about this just yet) the 'check-in chill-out' took an age in resort in the heat, and later getting the requisite number of minibuses together for the passengers was handled in an exceptionally laid back/poorly organised manner. However, there were no passenger queues at the check-in desks at the airport on return. So if there are a good number of VS passengers at your resort and/or you have young kids it may prove worth getting a cab to the airport on your return.

My advice is try and get off the plane asap and get to immigration... we came in just after the BA aircraft and literally waited over two and a half hours to clear immigration and we were at the front of the aircraft getting off, I felt for those right at the back!

A fan is also handy if the air conditioning isn't working. [8D]

The BA flight on a Saturday is scheduled to arrive an hour after the Virgin flight, and leave about 2 hours later, so you shouldn't have to worry about that one.

As has been noted, if you are being 'picked' up a the airport for your hotel transportation, they are all literalyy outside the door, so you probably don't need to use the local porters at all unless you have lots of baggage.

My biggest tip for getting through immegration (anywhere) is to make sure all the forms are completed properly and check, check and check again and that its all ready with passports etc to hand over to the officer.

Amazing how many people (not v-flyers of course!) think its fine to be stood in the queue (and moan about how slow it is) and then only try and get things ready when at the desk !
