Old v New PE Seats

I'm flying out of LGW next month and considering upgrading to PE. Looking around there is plenty advertising the new PE seats as having 38' pitch and 21' wide. Are the older seats that are still used on the LGW routes also 21' wide or are they narrower? Being a little over my fighting weight the extra width could make the 9+ hours more bearable.

Thanks

I know, on occasion, there can be an aircraft change replacing one of the Gatwick Fleet with a Heathrow Aircraft (especially on the Barbados route), but on the basis that you are travelling on a 747 out of Gatwick, then the upstairs PE seats are (IMHO) slightly wider than the new PE seats.

As width may be the prime consideration, it should be noted that some seats, such as exit rows, are slightly narrower due to stowage of the table in the armrest.
You gain in length but not width.

Are they? I didn't know that. I believe both have the 38' pitch and I know it's subjective, but I vastly prefer the new purple leather seats over the old.

I know this is an older topic, but can anyone tell me if flights out of Gatwick going to Barbados have the new seats they have been using out of Heathrow? ? also, are the PE seats still upstairs, flew in that cabin 7 years ago and would like to know if the layout is still the same. I am flying on 25th November.

One of the LHR 744's with the new PE seats has been operating many Caribbean flights recently - not just Barbados. On this aircraft all the PE seats are on the main deck.

The LGW 744's have also operated on the Barbados route recently. These aircraft have the older style PE seats which are located on the entire upper deck as well as the main deck.

The only way to find out which aircraft you will be on is to check the "Manage my Booking" section on the VS website and check the current seating plan. Bear in mind though that the aircraft can change at any time including on the day.
