This slipped by me until I got an FC email just now.
They have sneakily upped the reward mileage to get to NYC from 25,000 to 29,500.
http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... onsale.jspThey of course didn't get it quite right as they still say:
'We would like to offer you a reward seat from just 25,000 miles to New York.'
Other destinations have dropped a bit and I see that Tokyo has come online there.
Still would love LAX to go back down to 25,000 as it was at one point for a little while....

Drat,
Need to earn some more miles now then!
I was close to being able to book the flights for our 2010 summer holiday and had enough to get 3 of the flights with miles.
I will have to transfer in some SPG miles I think....

Love it... 'We'd like to offer you New York for 25,000 miles, but we can't'

I received this as part of a 'Reward Seat Sale' email so a bit naughty to increase the 'price'...

Am in discussion with VS, there had been a problem buying miles on line for a week or so. I tried to make the booking 7/10 using my wifes & my miles as we were short by 11,000 miles to take my family LGW - MCO & NEW - LHR for August next year. VS kindly put the booking on hold using NEW - LHR at 25,000 miles until the problem was fixed. Now I have been able to finally buy the miles on-line the mileage has suddenly increased - VS have said that I MAY be able to get the flights for the reduced/original figure - still waiting for a response!

Now that's just unreasonable - should be total yes!

I totally agree, I thought the whole point of holding seats was to ensure you got the fare/price/reward etc at the current price/redemption level, just because the rules changed then you shouldn't be punished.

Well after 10 days of continuous phone calls not only to Reservations but also the Customer Services, Customer Support etc etc, i've totalled a staggering 6 hours on the phone. Now i've finally got the e-ticket, flights confirmed at the original mileage. Cost me 130,000 miles for a family of 4 & over 700 in taxes!!!
Oh well, at least it's sorted

Good news and although it took far too much effort by you, well done to VS for doing the right thing in the end.

Do VS think we are stupid? The price to NYC has been 25k miles for nearly as long as I can remember, now in the sale they are 29500!
I am not 100% sure, but this may even be illegal. I know in retail for a vendor to advertise an item at a sale price, it has to have been sold at the 'higher price' for a certain number of days.
Maybe no one ever thought to write rules for a sale that INCREASES the price from the previous price nearly 20%

The actual/original redemption level for NYC is 50k miles. Yes it has been in the sale at 25k for a long time, but when you compare it to BOS & IAD at 35k miles each, and ORD at 50k miles, it is still a saving compared to those.
So whilst it isn't as cheap as it has been, it certainly isn't illegal.

Hmmmm, not so sure.....
UK Consumer law states that for a product so be 'on sale' it must have been advertised and available at the higher price for a reasonable period of time.
Surely the fact that Virgin are now stating that NYC in Y is on sale at 29,500, when the price for the previous how many months has been 25,000 is not in keeping with this practice?
It may be a saving compared to other destinations, but this fact is surely irrelevant.
