One of our friends is petrifed of flying and I have made it my mission to get him in a plane before the end of the year [}:)]
I thought about a shuttle down to lhr from edi and back on the same day (just so I could get a look round T5 as well) and if that went well, we would take them on one of our trips across the pond.
The VS bit would be in premium but upper if I could spend some miles, the theory being that it would be a better experience for him, less claustrophobic, much more easier to wonder around etc.
The problem being that I wouldn't want to book anything unless he backed down at the last moment.
Apart from the day trip, has anyone any ideas how I could achive my 'mission'
many thanks
David

I can add my support; a friend's teenager (who had flown without fear for years) developed the phobia and went on the course and was able to travel to Orlando as a result

Yeah, thats why I thought of a shuttle down to lhr first - not so much of a problem if he backs out at the last minute (plus it lets me have a nose round T5 [:D])

I did the Flying without Fear course in 2000.
I followed it up with 2 hynotherapy sessions.
I can honestly say that I quite enjoy flying now! I used to have to be dragged on the plane and consume alot of alcohol.
The course totally changed this and now go on holiday 3 or 4 times a year.
Not sure if this is a good or bad thing as we spend a fortune on holidays now.

I know someone who works on the Flying Without Fear course, and have a friend who has been on it. They have some great people on it, and a great track record.
There is also an app you can get for your iPhone if you have one.
I'm a hypnotist and NLP trainer and have a 'Phobia Cure' recording on iTunes which some people have also found helpful.
I honestly believe that the vast majority of flying phobias can be cured (I got over mine and LOVE traveling VS when I can) so it's worth pursuing in one way or another.
Do let us know how your friend gets on!

You are lovely friend to have. [:D]
Good luck[y]
I did a flying without fear course via the Holiday programme with Cliff Mitchelmore when dinosaurs still roamed freely upon this earth. [;)]
I've been flying ever since though I still have a tinsy wincy drink before boarding but that is because I can, not because I really need it[;)]
Will wait for your next installment.

If your friend does go on the flying without fear course, tell them to keep an open mind. I went on it last year and as much as I enjoyed the day and found it really helpful, I still find flying awful. Before anyone says anything, I'm not saying it's not something that can be cured and I'm sure this course does work for alot of people (I'm sure if I wasn't just sat there doing nothing worrying I'm sure I'd be ok) but just thought I should say there is a flip side and it's not a miracle cure for everyone.
