Its always a pleasure to read these reports for their clarity and thoroughness (I don't actually read them cover to cover - just selective sections).
My interpretation is that the Captain of G-VAIR handled the situation he found himself in very well. In fact taken together with other AAIB reports I have read, I am left with an excellent impression of the high standard of performance of VA's pilots. Very reassuring!

Having just done a very quick scan, it pretty much cleared the VS crew, which of course is good, I do wonder though why VS MX did not know about the update to the CVR ????
Also of course the airport operator ignoring the set safety standards doesn't really help.
